MAYOR MIKE just kicked up the anty and the pressure on the tiny minority of Americans who are against gun safety. Dumping millions into the Illinois race to replace disgraced Jesse Jackson, Jr., he put Robin Kelly over the top.
A multimillion-dollar ad blitz by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to stop an NRA-backed House candidate in Illinois paid off Tuesday night, as local official Robin Kelly crushed more than a dozen Democratic candidates vying to replace disgraced former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.
Bloomberg and gun control proponents seized on the results as evidence of momentum in their push to enact President Barack Obama’s gun control package. The mayor will take that message to Washington Wednesday in meetings with Vice President Joe Biden, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), according to Bloomberg’s public schedule.

It looks like we will have another progressive woman in congress, and that bodes well for the country.
Thank you, Mayor Mike!
I have mixed feelings on this. I’m glad for the result–a progressive won and I’m certainly for rational gun control–what we’ve been doing in the past makes no sense.
But I feel uneasy about billionaires in general helicoptering cash into states to effect election results. Even when I agree with the results. I don’t know how we shake this curse of obscene amounts of money in our election processes. This is turning into the War of the Billionaires. The public [who appears way too influenced by these ads and drum beating] become nothing more than sheeple to be led around by the nose. How in the heck is that democratic?
Maybe this is the way it has to go until someone or something blows the whole thing out of the water and says: enough already!
So, congrats to Ms Kelly. Just wish I didn’t feel so queasy.
Illinois politics as usual – one guy goes to jail while the next candidate buys their way in. And for those who think gerrymandering is a GOP thing, just look at Illinois.
