The Senate overwhelmingly confirmed President Barack Obama’s choice of five-term Sen. John Kerry to be secretary of state, with Republicans and Democrats praising him as the ideal successor to Hillary Rodham Clinton. The vote Tuesday was 94-3. One senator — Kerry — voted present and accepted congratulations from colleagues on the Senate floor. [ASSOCIATED PRESS]

Congratulations to the Republican Party for getting their nominee through the Senate!
Kerry finally has his dream job. Now he can curl up and take a nice long nap.
He has an enourmous task ahead of him. I expect more out of him than self congratulatory hype. Kerry, in my opinion, has many contradictions in his life. Just as all people do. I wonder if Kerry is also going to go around pretending heis no longer a politician either. My prediction is that he is going to do a great many things as Secretary of State. He is tough and has learned many hard lessons. It is quite clear that he has been groomed for this position since Obama first took Office.
Three comments, one thoughtful, two silly ones. I agree with you mjsmith. I think Kerry has grown and worked hard on foreign policy issues while in the senate, and will do a good job as Secretary of State.
Thank you angels81 . I know that I made comments about Kerry being Secretary of State in an earlier post that offended you. I am sorry about that.
