Embrace actual conservatism. Get in touch with the libertarian nature of conservatism.
This includes letting people do what we want, as long as it’s within the law.
Jim VandeHei said today on “Morning Joe” that Senator Rand Paul is going to start pushing “more lax marijuana laws,” as well as ease the right’s hold on immigration extremism, joining the call for a path to citizenship.
In an interview with POLITICO, Paul said he’ll return to Congress this week pushing measures long avoided by his party. He wants to work with liberal Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy and Republicans to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for pot possession. He wants to carve a compromise immigration plan with an “eventual path” to citizenship for illegal immigrants, a proposal he believes could be palatable to conservatives. And he believes his ideas — along with pushing for less U.S. military intervention in conflicts overseas — could help the GOP broaden its tent and appeal to crucial voting blocs that handed Democrats big wins in the West Coast, the Northeast and along the Great Lakes.
“We have three big regions where we’re not competitive,” Paul said. “And we have to be competitive in those regions.”
This is a winning strategy for Republicans that could flip the power in one election cycle.
But they also have to come to grips with women. Understand that a woman’s body is not a “social issue.” It’s personal. It’s private.
Many Republicans will remain against abortion, but as long as they want to dictate to women they cannot be called “conservative.” The basic premise of conservatism is individual freedom from government; anything less is a religious conservative, something that will never give them the majority they seek.
Women’s rights to self-determination, which also includes equal pay, matters to modern women.
Oh, and in case you didn’t get it, 2016 has begun for the right.
It’s going to take a bunch of hard-headed, determined Republicans to get this kind of thinking launched. And in doing so they better get some real honest to goodness GOP women who can relate to what’s going on in this country and I don’t mean the Michelle Bachman/Sarah Palin types. As of now the GOP has nothing to offer but the same old thing.

Paul Ryan is apperantly still in denial, he says it was not their budget philosophy but rather a high “urban turnout” that sank them. I sure hope somehow in the future he gets shut down. Hopefully, the washington media will not think he is such a smart guy anynore. Isn’t he the person they think is good at math. If that is true he must not have studied any of the poll results.
Really…when you think about it Rand Paul’s libertarian view ( minus religion) is more threatenting to progressive progress than plain old mean conservatism because it will appeal to youth. Frankly, to me anyone who subcribes to libertarianism emotionally arrested around age 18.
