Black Friday: Boutiques open at midnight? How ‘little guys’ try to compete. (via The Christian Science Monitor)
From midnight on Thanksgiving night until 3 a.m., Julia Dvir’s store, “The Closet,” will further discount her jewelry, hats, belts, and purses (already 40-60 percent off). Located just 80 yards up the Fashion Square Mall from Macy’s, the boutique is trying to take advantage of people who will…

Passing the mall, we saw people who had set up tents as early as Wednesday night out in front of Best Buy. We later found out they had Coleman stoves and sleeping bags. Maybe we should just skip Thanksgiving Day.
You know it used to be about the working class having that Friday off after Thanksgiving to get a head start on Christmas shopping. Now, it has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas. It is just a bunch of people flocking to places like Best Buy to get that great deal on a flat screen for themselves.
I have never done the Black Friday gig and never will. It has become madness and not a very healthy development in our society. “Things’ and fighting to get them …that is life in the Good Old USA.
My DIL had to be to work at 4:45 this morning. insane.
