Washington Post/ABC Poll: Obama Trails Romney by 33 Points with White Males

However, Romney does now boast a statistically — and substantively — important lead on the economy, which has long been the central issue of the race. When it comes to handling the nation’s struggling economy, 52 percent of likely voters say they trust Romney more, while 43 percent say they have more faith in the president. – Post-ABC tracking poll: Romney 50 percent, Obama 47

IT’S THE largest racial split since the Reagan – Mondale landslide, a year some of us remember well.

The clearest loss for the president is among white men. In 2008, Obama lost white men by 16 points, according to the exit poll. This year, Obama trails Romney double that margin — 33 points — larger than any deficit for a Democratic candidate since Ronald Reagan’s 1984 landslide win over Walter Mondale. [Washington Post]

These numbers are not going to make Chicago panic, because Team Obama thinks they have the Electoral Map in their favor, but it will make them press even harder, because even the most confident would find these splits alarming, especially if you want to govern.

Today, both Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity started talking straight with their audiences, telling them they should be nervous, because nobody thinks Mitt Romney is a sure win. That’s an understatement. Hannity said if Obama wins it will be because some people are just accustomed to “getting free stuff” from the government, but also just can’t grasp being independent, a translation of his gibberish.

There are so many polls coming out now that even the most astute is starting to go pale looking at some of the results.

CORRECTION: Title was changed, due to general offensiveness and inaccuracy, by way of being unintelligible.

I’m surprised that Rush et al are telling their listeners the truth. A friend of mine’s husband was shocked back in 2008 when McCain didn’t win because all he listened to was talk radio.

Well, I wouldn’t say they’re telling them the truth, but they are beginning to prepare them.

Hannity said if Obama wins it will be because some people are just accustomed to “getting free stuff” from the government and basically hate liberty or something like that.

Ouch, that might be the single most badly-constructed headline I’ve ever read, Taylor! Non-Whites lead by 9 points on the economy? Who is exactly is “Who?”

    Try again, please!

Indeed….I read it SEVERAL times and it just never made any sense.

The polls are getting overwhelming….I try to check in with Nate Silver everyday but can rarely finish his piece..my bad…. I just get bored with the wonkishness.

I think this most recent one just proves my thinking on the gullibility of white men. They can be lied to easily it seems because Romney takes the cake in mendacity.Any white working class man that thinks Romney gives a fig about them is delusional, just as any poor person who thinks Paul Ryan cares about them would also be delusional.

Obama is no prize but MItt would be a disaster.

Anybody else notice how hard Politico is pushing for MItt?

Interesting comment about the gulibility of white men. I suppose that can be applied to any demographic. The AP poll had women split at 47%. So I guess… 47% of women ‘that think Romney gives a fig about them is (are) delusional’ and that ‘EVEN MORE proof that women vote on financial issues first’ is total nonsense.

“I think this most recent one just proves my thinking on the gullibility of white men.”

ya know I may be going out on a limb here but maybe…just maybe this says something about the undercurrent of RACISM that runs through so mush of the white male culture and society……ya think maybe?

secular~ Yes, I do think that there is an undercurrent of racism but I also know that any Democratic President would have just as many ridiculous charges and acusations.I knew race would be a big problem back during the primary with Hillary but if she had won we would be talking about sexism.

Guyski~ I agree that women do vote for economic reasons more than any other and if the Dems had any kind of economic program that was understandable they would probably not be shifting. ( if you discount the histeria aftet 9/11) but I don’t know how any of these people think Romney has the answers. I am not saying Obama does either but I don’t think he will sell off federal lands to the oil barons, I don’t think he will appoint anti choice judges to the Supreme Court, I don’t think he will give seniors vouchers for medicare, I don’t think he believes in trickle down. I do think he believes in investment in people.I do think he will tax the rich.I don’t think he will try to reinstate don’t ask don’t tell in the military. I do think that with all of it’s flaws Obamacare is better than nothing which is what we will get from Romney

I can’t explain what happens to women who get married and move to the burbs but I do think they let their gullible husbands influnce their votes too much.

I am not going to defend the Democrats but anyone who thinks the Republicans care about their interests are thinking like serfs…way too much idol worship of wealth

They are all indebted to and inbedded with Wall Street.

We don’t have any good choices.
