Pew Poll: Romney Surges on “New Ideas,” Jobs and Deficit Reduction

Romney is seen as the candidate who has new ideas and is viewed as better able than Obama to improve the jobs situation and reduce the budget deficit.Romney’s Strong Debate Performance Erases Obama’s Lead [Pew Poll]

THE PEW Research Center poll shows a strong surge for Mitt Romney. On presidential traits, Romney seems to have turned his negatives upside down.

It’s going to be a very long wait until Obama gets back on stage.

Vice President Joe Biden’s debate is growing in prominence, mainly because of the horse race aspect, because Team Obama desperately wants to change the conversation off of the constant critique of Obama’s performance.

Democrats just hope that Saturday Night Live will feature a Paul Ryan edition and not a Joe Biden edition of the debate.

Taylor, you would think the good jobs report that came out, would have changed the subject from the debate, by now.

It makes you wonder if the job numbers had been bad…would we be talking about that instead of Obama debate performance….LOL

Look Romney did a good job Wednesday night of pretending he was a moderate candidate. Obama refused to call Romney out on his lies…thus we now have an actual horse race. Democrats have only three more debates…to turn this late Romney surge around. And it all starts with Biden…who has to not make one mistake during his debate performance…the pressure on this man will be enormous…and its all thanks to Obama’s fumble, last week.

People already think Paul Ryan will win this weeks debate around. So, Paul Ryan caught screw up either. I can’t predict who will win this upcoming debate…but I do know who can’t afford to make a Gaffe and his name is…Biden.

    • Marie205 October 8, 2012 at 5:36 pm #

correction: caught should be can’t, in line discussing Ryan :)

    • Ga6thDem October 8, 2012 at 5:39 pm #

I know people think Ryan is going to win but actually I see the opposite. Biden is really good with the quip like 9/11, a noun and a verb. Ryan, on the other hand, cannot stand to be questioned or needled. Biden is good at shaking things off. Ryan not so much it would seem.

Marie205 – People all along have wanted a reason to vote FOR an alternative. Romney just never gave voters a chance to consider him. The job numbers were good, but again, people feel things are still not where they should be.

Romney embraced his inner Governor Mitt and absolutely owned the first debate in a way that made people FEEL (there’s that word, because voting is emotional for most people) he could handle the job and they feel comfortable with him now.

Some swing state numbers now show the gains for Romney are real.

But it is absolutely not over.

      • guyski October 9, 2012 at 7:17 am #

‘People all along have wanted a reason to vote FOR an alternative.’ Kind of an important statement. All the talking heads on TV mentioned the debate ratings; 67.2 million people watching. But, know one asks why that many people watched.

        • guyski October 9, 2012 at 8:01 am #

          should say no one.

    • PWT October 9, 2012 at 10:35 am #

The jobs numbers were not good. 120,000 jobs added does not even keep up with population growth. It would be better to classify the report as not terrible.

Romney has no new ideas, they’re just the same old supply side, trickle down ideas. If American voters think his ideas are new, then they deserve what they get. As for Barry, maybe seeing him up close for an extended period just reminded them of how annoying and depressing he really is.

    • Marie205 October 8, 2012 at 5:57 pm #

“As for Barry, maybe seeing him up close for an extended period just reminded them of how annoying and depressing he really is.”-fango

      :)

    • T-Steel October 8, 2012 at 7:13 pm #

Oh I agree with you 1000% fangio!! What new ideas? They both don’t have any new ideas. But since this article is about Romney, let me get this out:

HARDY HAR HAR HA HA! And a couple of *snickers* for good measure.

What a load of nonsense and the fact that it is believed is beyond depressing. Romney has evened the race (according to polls) off a switcheroo performance and a lukewarm incumbent performance that missed the switcheroos. So this news is hardly registering on my impact meter.

hmmm. what a mess. recall nxt prez thing is a forum not a side by side debate, the 3rd is i think a table discussion on foriegn affairs. yikes.

    • T-Steel October 8, 2012 at 7:31 pm #

      Here’s what going to happen:

      1. Biden will be Biden and will out charisma Paul Ryan. Biden optics will be good because that dude is a walking optics machine. Liberals will feel a tad better and Conservatives will say “Ryan isn’t running for President”.

      2. Obama will be more lively and engaged in the forum. He’s no dummy and will make sure of that. He’s going to make sure he owns the optics first and foremost.

      3. Polls are going to move a bit since Obama will look more lively and engaged regardless what Romney does or does not do in the forum (in my opinion, Romney’s greatest moment will be the 1st debate). A forum will suit him since he can do his charisma thing.

      4. Pundits will lovingly and accurately discuss the difference in Obama this time around. Obama has nowhere to go but up anyways.

      5. Team Obama will take the Prez’s more energetic forum performance and fire broadsides at Team Romney basically implying their going to wipe the floor with Romney on foreign policy.

      6. Team Romney will take every deteriorating event in the Middle East and lay it squarely in Obama’s lap as a sign of weakness (although we all know the Terrorist/Extremist Jubilee would happily skin Obama and Romney alive). If more fighting erupts in Syria, Romney will flat out say that they don’t respect America which is why they are acting like homicidal barbarians. That meme will light the ConservativeSphere on fire

      7. Team Obama will respond that Team Romney are grossly wrongheaded and that the hawk-like rhetoric is being said to try to cushion their mighty fall on the foreign policy debate.

      And I’m tired and want cantaloupe… :)

I agree President Obama screwed the pooch not calling Mittens on his none stop, start to finish lie fest.

  5. ladywalker68 October 9, 2012 at 1:14 am #

While the idea that Romney has all of these “new and fresh” ideas is a load of bovine fecal matter, if Obama loses, the blame falls squarely on his own shoulders. He was doing fine until he decided not the prep or even show up for the debate. I mean he could not have had a better showing than the Convention and a stronger lead going into the debate, and all of that went down the tubes when he had to go toe-to-toe on his own with Romney.
Citizens didn’t like seeing their President slapped up both sides of the head by Mr. Etch-A-Sketch-In-Chief and not make any defense of blatant lies. Obama seemed very meek and weak, not a leader at all. Of course, about the only time Romney was not lying was when his lips weren’t moving, but that is another story all together. He metaphorically beat the crap out of Obama and all the nation saw was man who stood there and did not fight for his job.
Obama is losing the election all on his own. He cannot blame lack of support. It’s like Jon Stewart said:
    http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-october-4-2012/democalypse-2012—o-bama–where-art-thou–pt–2
“Everyone has parts of their jobs that they don’t like so much, but they still have to do those things if they want to keep those jobs. And if you don’t want to do it for yourself, think of your supporters (cut to Chris Matthew’s meltdown over Obama’s poor debate performance and Stewart’s declaration that Obama “broke Chris Matthews….” LOL!!!)…
Continuing Stewart’s statements from the video “…Here’s is what is perhaps the most maddening. For the past year and ½, you Mr. President have inundated this country with urgent emails, begging for support and money and energy and money…and money….and….money. And it’s not just the number of emails, it’s the intensity of their content. “This is our One Shot….Say You’re In….You’re response is Critical….I CAN’T DO THIS ON MY OWN! …and by the way, you made that abundantly clear last night.
But the point is this….You and your campaign have demanded a level of effort, urgency and relentlessness from your supporters. A level of effort, urgency and relentlessness you failed to display in a national Presidential debate. Shouldn’t your urgency and passion be on par with the urgency and passion of your e-Blasts? Or are you not on your mailing lists?
I’m tempted to leave you with the wise words of a noted actor whose campaign viral video has been forwarded to my Inbox 1900 times by some of your passionate followers. I believe it goes a little something like this…cuts to Samuel Jackson close-up glaring into the camera and saying “WAKE THE F*** UP!”
If Obama does wake-up, I am not sure it matters now. I just might be too little too late.

Let’s be clear, in 2008, swing voters wanted reasons to vote against eight years of Bush/Cheney and in 2012, swings voters are looking for reasons to vote against Obama/Biden. Obama obliged last Wednesday. Last Thursday, pundits on the left dismissed the damaged self-inflicted on their guy. Today, we find out they were lying to themselves and to Obama’s base. Truth be told, Romney’s true lies only worked because Obama is such a blue dog Democrat.

Question: what’s the difference between Obama running as a centrist Democrat in 2008, only to scurry to the right once he took office and Romney running to the right of the rest of the Republician clown car earlier this year and now becoming a centrist?

  7. secularhumanizinevoluter October 9, 2012 at 5:33 am #

As of Tuesday morning polls are back to Obama over Mittens by 4 or 5%. Mittens done bounced…as in past tense.

Sec–which polls are you referring to? Pew?

It’s a poll of the voices in his head.

If only they could figure out a way to rig up a debate that can use a teleprompter.

  9. cjoblak@hotmail.com October 9, 2012 at 10:30 am #

Looks like the magic phrase for you all is “Romney lies” to bad ya’ll can’t come up with any.

Like Obama lying about not touching Medicare, shovel ready jobs, and the latest biggest whopper – that the Terrorist Attacks in Benghazi were because of a movie! Now that one takes the cake.

    • ladywalker68 October 9, 2012 at 11:06 am #

cjoblak–Mitt flat out LIED when he said his heath care plan covers pre-existing conditions.

Not only does he lie, but he changes positions so fast, his flip/flopping makes John Kerry look solid as a rock. Some of us who would have given Mitt a fighting chance are suffering from whiplash trying to keep up…but I digress….

I am not a fan of Obama. And I don’t care much for the Mittens. When I say Mitt lies, it is because he lies.

At one time, perhaps Obama said he would never touch Medicare or Social Security but i don’t remember that specifically. He has been talking for a long time about “strengthening” both, so I was never deluded into thinking he wouldn’t touch them.

Mitt lies. Sorry if you can’t handle the truth about your candidate, but facts do matter to me.
