It was a great convention by any objective standards, and the President’s tone and message yesterday was on point.
I LOVE the way Clinton took RomneyRyan to school, made them look like petulant school kids and gave them a scolding for their lies. Bill Clinton did a huge service to the Dems. He reminded them how to be triumphant and take it to the wingnuts, and they all followed. It was great to watch even if Obama is not reelected. I dont remember ever seeing the Dems this aggressive, if there is a hangover it is on the Romney camp, loads of wounds to lick.
I still think Obama is vulnerable. All Romney has to do is stick to “you did not fix the economy”. This week’s convention brought some good answers, hope Obama is well prepared.
Oh, make no mistake about it, Pres. Obama is “vulnerable.”
Heard the presser w/ Romney today. Debate prep has helped him immensely. He had a much sharper tone & his argument was specific. Much more impressive than he’s been this year off the cuff.
All the debate prep in the world can’t and won’t enable Mitt Romney to escape the essential truth that he faces. Nobody likes him! This guy had to spend tens of million of dollars to beat the worst Presidential primary field in recent GOP history and in the end it didn’t work. At the end of his primary campaign he didn’t win because all the carpet bombing of his opponents worked and the GOP based decided they liked him now! He only won the GOP nomination because his primary opponents were a bunch of un-electable clowns President Obama would have crushed by double digits. In the end the GOP base was forced to accept this reality and grudgingly had to hold their collective noses and go with Mittens. I am an politics junkie and as such I watched the GOP convention in it’s entirety. Mitt Romney was an after thought at his own nomination convention! If running for the various offices over the last 18 years, the last six for President, was not enough to improve his debate skills sufficiently to face President Obama how could any debate prep a few weeks out make any dif?
So, are the polls reflecting a huge bump up for Obama?
We don’t know yet, but we will soon enough.
Hmmm! As I write this Gallup has President Obama at 52% approval 43% disapproval! http://www.gallup.com/poll/113980/gallup-daily-obama-job-approval.aspx
Given Gallup’s well know con bias I would say a +9 job approval from that polling outfit is significant!
Bump delivered.
Bump delivered. BWAHAHAHA!
I would say against some other candidate Obama would be much more vulnerable. HOWEVER he and Biden will be debating Mitt da Twit and Lyin Ryan. It is going to be a massacre.
Obama is a terrible debater. Have you forgotten 2008? I think the GOP has all this backwards when it comes to the debates. Biden is the good debater. I would think that Biden’s ability to deliver one liners could make Paul Ryan into a laughing stock. Mitt is a pretty good debater so I would not call that one in Obama’s favor YET. But I don’t know how much debates matter because we saw a lot of them with George W. Bush looking and sounding like a trained monkey and that didn’t seem to matter a whole lot to voters.
President Obama and VP Biden will both win their debates because Romney and Ryan won’t be able to remember all the lies they have be telling over the last few months. When a person lies as often as those guys do after a while it get impossible to keep the lies straight and the whole thing just collapses! Ryan lied about how fast he ran his last marathon! Why would someone lie about something like that?
That’s precisely why I think Biden will make Ryan into a laughing stock. The guy can’t even tell the truth about running a marathon or climbing mountains in Colorado. Romney on the other hand, has not been really telling lies so much as trying to win by default which could work. I mean look at the Republicans who post here–even they can’t tell you a reason WHY to vote for Romney, they only can seem to give reasons to vote AGAINST Obama.
Can’t argue with anything you just said!
Assuming you identify me as a Republican, then my response is ……”why the hell should I?”
The last survey I saw had liberals at 21% and registered Democrats at 35%. Romney needs exactly none of those votes.
Providing the collective “you” with any reasons, or the time of day for that matter, ranks about 113th on the list of useful things to do in terms of influencing the outcome of this election.
I will supply a “swing voter” with some reasons…….to qualify, please state to the group here that you voted for Bush either once or twice or John McCain.
Ga6thDem – But Kerry had such a habit of falling into Senate speak he set up Bush to look better.
Anyone thinking they know what will happen in the debates is talking through his/her fan politics pie hole.
Debates matter.
Mitt Romney better pray that debates still matter because his path to the Presidency is shrinking! Just read his campaign isn’t advertising in PA, MI and his running mates home state, WI!
That last comment? I should have waited a few more minutes before I posted it because Mitt Romney’s path to the WH just narrowed a bit more in the last few minutes! The Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted finally decided to obey a court order allowing local voting officials in that state to set the hours for early voting! http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2012/09/07/814821/jon-husted-backs-down/
Actually Taylor I thought they mattered until George W. Bush came along. He was a horrible debater even completely losing it in one debate with Kerry and just repeating talking points about fuzzy math against Gore. So I’m still on my debates don’t matter until I see something different.
If Al Gore’s sigh hadn’t been picked up by the microphone in a debate with W. the perception of him wouldn’t have hardened.
solo – The first debate matters a lot.
After the Dem convention, which was tremendously well produced, Mitt Romney looks even worse. He’s up against it, that’s for sure.
The press is also framing it very negatively for Mitt Romney, which can become a self-fulfilling property.
BUT… people still think the country is going in the wrong direction & they’re still worried about the economy.
Yes,
Obummer and Bitten will be bloodied all over the floor by Romney/Ryan.
The only way those two twits could bloody Obama and Biden is if they bring a knife to the debates.
You really do live in a fantasy world.
Hasn’t your Doctor advised you lay off the booze and weed? because either that is the cause or you have a serious psychotic break with reality going on there….either way you should seek professional help immediately.
In the brief 20 years that I’ve been able to vote and watching debates in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008, YES they do matter for the massive Big 2 voting block. But I gotta tell ya sumthin’, Obama won’t wipe the floor with Romney and Romney won’t wipe the floor with Obama. Both will be ready and both have styles that don’t trump one or the other in that arena. Now I think what will determine a debate winner is optics, likability, and delivery. If each hold serve, which I can see, optics, likability, and delivery will determine a winner.
Debates do matter and I am surprised by all of the arrogance in here.
Last night I grabbed a glass of wine, a (bottle really) settled down on my couch and waited for it.
If there is one thing I will give Obama credit for, he does have the ability to charm the masses with his teleprompter speeches.
I did smirk a little bit because he did come up 50,000 short and I know that bruised his little ego.
As he appeared on the stage, my head started to ache.
I clutched my glass.
Held my breath.
And waited for it.
The camera closed in on his face and before he uttered a word, I looked deep into his eyes and then I saw IT>
I fell on the floor laughing hysterically.
it was at that moment I realized that Bill Clinton had left North Carolina after his Fabulous speech and had taken ALL of the Political Viagra with him.
…well, not all of it, as he did drop Brother Biden a couple since that was a BS move to pull him from prime-time…
He was off last night.
*giggles again*
He should have never played that Bill Clinton is a racist mess.
He better hope that debates matter…
Hasn’t your Doctor advised you lay off the booze and weed? because either that is the cause or you have a serious psychotic break with reality going on there…either way you should seek professional help immediately.
Mitt used a teleprompter as well so that was a wash. As for the rest of what you said Sasha, I don’t know what you’re really saying but it sure is, as my oldest daughter says:
LOL-worthly!
That is what too much wine will do to a person. When Mitt referred to the Dem Convention “hangover” we now know what he really meant… :0
Whenever I request specifics that point to how Romney will do better with the economy than Obama, or ask for details of Mitt’s economic plan, the only things they ever come back with are quotes of statistics about how bad the economy has been under Obama…
Nothing to back up any sort of record that Romney every has done squat, has the potential to do squat, or will do squat to create 12 million real jobs….. it is always. CRICKETS!!! Look over there…Obama…bad economy.
Tell you what…elect me President and I will create 20 million jobs! Why? Because Obama has done so poorly…you don’t need my resume or any specifics. Trust me. Take my word for it. Obama sucks, but I will create 20 million jobs.
{{{ sigh }}} It seems as if the Republicans need some help, so I found a copy of his resume, right next to his hidden tax returns….

Sounds like a winner to me…NOT!!!
The DNC had an inclusive, celebratory vibe while the RNC was rather limited and desultory. I think many people are tired of the constant fear and misery peddling.
Agreed. In fact, Romney’s response that he will build a stronger America implies that he doesn’t believe in the country and considers it weak. And they accuse Obama of not being patriotic.
The Democratic Convention put the other guys to shame, both in patriotism and in believing in the collective strength of ALL of US PEOPLE!!!!
