GETTING CAUGHT spinning your own vote is something that’s becoming a common event for Mitt Ryan’s running mate. It’s the Medicare issue, where Ryan had the brass, as former Pres. Bill Clinton judged it, to criticize Pres. Obama for something he did, too, the sequester edition. To review:
The Budget Control Act included sequestration as a forcing mechanism for the supercommittee to reach a deficit-reduction deal, and the across-the-board cuts became law when the supercommittee failed. [The Hill]
As Romney hits Pres. Obama on the automatic cuts that Ryan agreed to and praised, the hypocrisy from Ryan is really something to behold as he basically lies about his vote in Congress.
CBS’s Norah O’Donnell has none of it.
Transcript of Paul Ryan is from Think Progress:
O’DONNELL: Now you’re criticizing the President for those same defense cuts you’re voting for and called a victory.
RYAN: No, no — I have to correct on you this, Norah. I voted for a mechanism that says the sequester will occur if we don’t cut $1.2 trillion in government. … We can get into this nomenclature; I voted for the Budget Control Act. But the Obama Administration proposed $478 billion in defense cuts. We don’t agree with that, our budget rejected that, and then on top of that is another $500 billion in defense cuts in the sequester.
O’DONNELL: Right. A trillion dollars in defense spending, and you voted for it!
RYAN: No, Norah. I voted for the Budget Control Act.
O’DONNELL: That included defense spending!
RYAN: Norah, you’re mistaken.
Except, Ms. O’Donnell is not mistaken.
In a clip posted on his own congressional website, this was Ryan when he was for the Budget Control Act, before he was against it (h/t Think Progress), while voting for it.
“The Budget Control Act represents a victory for those committed to controlling government spending and growing our economy… The Budget Control Act marks a positive step forward in getting government spending control, but much hard work remains.

Ryan is what you would call a serial liar, he wouldn’t know what the truth was if it ran over him in the street. Both Romney and Ryan have spent their whole lives bending the truth and outright lying to gain money and power over the rest of us working stiffs.
Rasmussen now has President Obama at 50%! All of Mitt Ryan’s lying and flip flopping doesn’t seem to be working, it seems to be pissing people off and sending them Obama’s way!
Well considering the choices we have in this election, that’s good news.
Solo,
This was prefaced by the dead cat bounce of the Republican convention. Romney failed to get passed 50% after Tampa; Team Magic Underwear is deep political kimchee. They have gone from presumptive win to presumptive loss. I have a feeling this is the second time that a VP nomination has scuppered a Republican election effort. Ryan may have cost Romney a 2%-3% depression in the final result and this is an election where such giveaways are fatal.
Ayn Ryan is a pathological liar. He lies about things important and trivial. If it will make him look better then others he will and does lie about it. PERIOD!
His lying is a direct result of the trauma he has had to live with ever since finding daddy dead.
Do our politicians not realize that the smart people will check facts? Paul Ryan better start looking at all the tapes and videos he showed up in and figure out how to be consistent in what he believes and what he has said Otherwise he will be nothing but a consistent liar.
He has made this far by lying through his teeth, he got the VP nod after all, why change now?
The whole Republican effort since the demise of John McNasty has been to tell one big, fat, lie right after another. They keep repeating each lie until it becomes gospel to the Republican faithful. Since reporters like Norah O’Donnell are few and far between, the Republicans get away with it.
He said, she said journalism has ruined the forth estate, no fact checking need apply. False balance to keep the story going and to fill the airspace with yammering pundits on “both sides of the issue” is the default. If we had a real press Ryan would have never made it past dog catcher; and Obama would still be stuck in Chicago; possibly trying to eventually become mayor.
