IT’S THE way the media works that an audio tape could be around so long, seen first in the comments at Huffington Post, as Ben Smith lays out, but the tapes are finally snagged by Mother Jones.
James Carter, President Carter’s grandson who originally snagged the audio, said on “Hardball” that the person who made the recording wasn’t one of the $50,000 donors eating dinner, but obviously wouldn’t give up the source.
It’s a little late now to worry about it, but over at Political Pro they go into whether the tapes were illegally obtained, something I certainly wondered once it was known how the audio saw the light of day.
The two audio recordings below comprise the full Mother Jones trove of Romney’s remarks. One thing that’s starting to get buzz comes just after 4:00 minutes. Mitt Romney begins talking about the Iran hostage crisis and President Jimmy Carter’s response, then makes a statement that would make Karl Rove proud.
“If something of that nature presents itself, I will work to find a way to take advantage of the opportunity.” – Mitt Romney

This tape looks like it was made by the bartender. I guess Mitt might have to start “toughing it out” at these fundraisers with out all the help OR either learn that he’s going to be on camera all the time.
Dear Barack Obama,
Where do I send Thank You card to Carter’s Grandson?
Sasha
So let me ask you…Do you agree that 47% of the voting public doesn’t pay taxes, and are just lazy bums looking for a handout?
That a hornets nest! Don’t poke it!
I like to live on the edge.
Sasha I agree, the entire population….well 99% of the population anyway owes a HUGE debt of gratitude to President carter’s Grandson. BRAVO young Mr. carter…BRAVO and a grateful Nation salutes you!
well the media certainly wasn’t going to open up the discussion on the economy on their own as it benefits Romney and exposes Obama and the failure of his policies…
now it’s front and center.
it exposes Romney for being more conservative than Republicans believed him to be.
oh and the best part is it once again marginalizes the media and exposes their liberal bias.
*backfire*
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!! Funny stuff coming from down the rabbit hole.
Now, now angels…there you go starting with the name calling!!!
I would hope that Romney’s comments on the 47% not paying federal income tax would lead to a national dialogue on poverty, which isn’t getting much attention. We need sound solutions in this area.
I agree lynette. It should also put the topic of Mitt’s own taxes at the top of the list. Let’s see how much he has paid over the last 10 years…
