**UPDATED**

President Obama and his daughters, Malia and Sasha, watch on television the First Lady’s speech to the DNC tonight. [Pete Souza via Twitter]
FIRST LADY Michelle Obama is fierce.
After watching her husband for almost four years she’s seen the price he’s paid for the work he does, which he chose out of love for his country, and the crazy arrogant notion any man or woman requires to do anything in politics today. She believes that her husband literally saved the country from financial ruin.
First Lady Michelle Obama not only loves her husband, who happens to be president, this accomplished, fearless, mother and adviser wants everyone to know that Barack Obama was the man to hire in 2008 and he’s the man to re-hire in 2012.
It’s a great romantic story of historic proportions.
This firebrand First Lady stepping out to make sure women know just how important Barack Obama has been to them. To military families, to mothers and father, and the kids she helps, including those changed through her Let’s Move project, to her White House honey, and garden.
This is an email sent out earlier tonight.
Tonight I’ll take the stage in Charlotte to talk about why my husband — and our president — is the right man for the job.
Twenty-three years ago, I fell in love with Barack because of his passion, sense of purpose, and his determination to make life better for other people. It’s just who he is — and it’s who he continues to be every day in the White House.
And for these next two months, we’ve got to give it everything we’ve got so that we have the chance to finish what we started.
Already this week, folks have chipped in more than 120,000 grassroots donations to help build this organization. That’s just incredible.
Then it goes into a fundraising plea for $5 or more.
… [after the speech...] But none of it prepared you for the speech Michelle Obama gave tonight.
First Lady Michelle Obama shared the most personal plea, letting us into a historic love affair of great importance and consequence to America. The connection was palpable watching it from the Beltway. I can only imagine the electricity in the room.
I’d vote for Michelle Obama in a heartbeat.
The case she made for her husband was about convincing people to join in on his cause yet again.

“Then it goes into a fundraising plea for $5 or more.”- Taylor
Well her husband is being out spend by shady right wing groups. So, her asking for a donation will be the norm throughout this election.
It’s a reality.
Slams up against the poetry.
Michelle Obama looks smashing.
” I fell in love with Barack because of his passion, sense of purpose and and his determination to make life better for other people. ” I guess Michelle and Ann both see things in their husbands that just isn’t there.
First thing, Malia and Sasha are growing up! Makes me look at my 10th and 9th grade daughters knowing that adulthood right around the corner for ‘em. Whoa! Anywayz…
LOL fangio! Like I said when Ann Romney spoke, First Ladies and First Lady Candidates are pure cheerleaders. And I wouldn’t expect anything otherwise NOR is that a bad thing. Hype up your spouse. If you didn’t, then something’s just not right.
Even in 2008, Michelle Obama had that lil’ something extra that First Lady Candidate Ann Romney doesn’t have. Mrs. Romney just didn’t look comfortable up there. While in 2008, Mrs. Obama was more polished and passionate. I chalked it down as two different personalities. But Michelle did a great job in selling President Obama. A better job than Ann did for her husband. But once again, they are SO different from each other that maybe that’s not fair.
Either way, she kicked things off in grand fashion for the Dems. On a related note, I’m so so tired of hearing about what Michelle Obama or Ann Romney is wearing. No one says anything about what Barry-O and M-ROM is wearing. Sheesh…
I don’t think I’ve ever heard such a strong, emotional, connecting, brilliant speech from a First Lady. Wow. This woman had everyone in the palm of her hand. What a beautifully delivered speech – phenomenal advocate for her husband. I think she really appealed to independent voters. I think the Dems had a very, very, strong opening night with so many great speakers.
It was simply spellbinding.
First Lady Michelle Obama made the intimately personal and profoundly purposeful plea I’ve ever heard in politics.
We are watching a great and powerful love affair that has tremendous consequence for our country.
Yes, spellbinding is a good word. I couldn’t take my eyes off of her – she was so engaging.
Wow,
I fell asleep during her speech. She didn’t give me the orgasm that apparently every on this site had.
By every objective meter, First Lady Michelle Obama connected with people, made a personal plea, while giving what many long-time viewers of these events believe, myself included, was the strongest speech ever given by a first lady at any national convention in recorded history.
” I think she really appealed to independent voters.”
I don’t think that many independent voters (nor even that many partisan voters) are paying any attention to these BS conventions. We already know the finale–why bother?
T-Steel, lynette and Taylor, Agree with all you said. Michele Obama’s speech was one of the best I’ve heard. It was brilliant and moving, from the head and the heart. Obama is one lucky man to have her in his corner. What an advocate she is! Between Gov Patrick and Michele Obama, they both hit it out the park and then some!
Just as an aside, Michele Obama has the right stuff to run for office because knowing how to connect with people on a human level as she did tonight and as passionate as she was about the issues facing all of us as she was tonight, and I’ve seen her make those connections on many an occasion, it something that seems to come naturally to her. Nothing phoney or forced about her.
What her speech did as well was to speak about her family’s struggles and her husband’s family’s stuggles to make a better life for she and her husband who in turn made a better life for their girls and connected it to the rest of us who share similar if not exact experiences in America. And, outside of Obama (and she made the case for him as she was supposed to)the two people who I will remember from that speech are her father and Obama’s grandmother.
I agree with you. After listening to her tonight, I think she could be a strong politician in her own right, if she wanted to go down that path.
What makes you think she isn’t a politician now?
Well, I guess she is. Let’s say run for her own political office.
You mean voted for her husband and not her in 2008?
Wow! Michelle and Castro rocked!
I give Michelle Obama, Esq., on a scale of 1-10, a 9.0. I don’t give out 10′s (Man is incapable of creating perfection. That’s just me).
It was perfectly written and perfectly delivered. She did avoid the words “poor, poverty, Union (I’m sure her father was a union man, having lived in Chicago) and underclass” at a Democratic Party convention. I guess I’m just an Jurassic Liberal who doesn’t believe society begins with the middle class and that the private sector is fair and balanced.
The DNC presented today Latinos who honored their parents for working two and three jobs to raise their families and give their children opportunities in life but we cannot say out loud it is these working poor Americans, they are not middle class, who deserve and require our greatest amount of compassion and broadest amount of support, when expending our party’s political capital.
More sentimental slop from people who don’t give a damn about the middle class or the poor. They do know what people on this blog and Americans in general want to hear though.
I am a hopeless MichelleObamaBot and in my view she can do no wrong (except maybe in some of her choices of clothes – sorry T steel) but I am not too sure about yesterday’s speech. I listened to every minute of it and it was heartfelt, personal, engaging, moving, brilliantly delivered, masterful…perhaps too masterful, she sounded a bit like….a politician (gasp!!!) and maybe there was just a little too much tearing up.
That said I love the video above (all 7 min of it) and I think it truly reflect the amazing work the First Lady has been doing over the past 3.5 years. She is a class act. I also wish we heard more about what Dr Jill Biden does as well, another truly amazing woman.
The DNC convention started well. Well done to Reid for keeping the pressure on the tax cheating/evasion of the Romneys.
We are all MichelleObamaBots today.
Ha! I loved the speech and the diversity of the delegates. There is a very different look and feel to the convention audience this week. Enuff said…
I agree, that’s the first thing I noticed was the makeup of the crowd. It sure looked a lot like the america I live in instead of the republican crowd that looked more like a klan rally then the america I know.
It was because of the selective photography by the liberal media.
And seriously, if you all really think we are better off now than four years ago, you are all living in a fantasy world.
Unemployment is higher, middle class incomes down by 4 grand, the debt is out of control. spending is out of control and on top of it all, Obama is a liar.
He said he would cut the deficit in half, lower unemployment, help the middle class. Duh, huh? Facts don’t lie, but, people in the media and the democrats are lying about the true state of affairs in this country.
Plus, Obama called Bush unpatriotic for all the debt he created!! Look at the amount of debt Obama has incurred WITH NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT. Talk about UNPATRIOTIC.
I hope you all are able to take your blinders off.
There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that the shots of the DNC floor was “selective photography.” That is absolute rubbish.
You bet, selective photography my ass. I guess you missed all the wide angle shots of the crowds for both conventions, but I’m not surprised you missed that.
1) 23 million Americans are unemployed or under employed.
2) A 46% increase in the number Americans on Food Stamps (SNAP) since Obama took office.
3) A drop of 4.6% in median income since Obama took office.
4) When Obama took office gas was $1.83/gal. It’s now $3.84/gal.
5) The National Debt just exceeded $16 trillion.
Yow Right, We really are better off than we were four years ago. What a f-cking joke.
All of the above directly affect s the middle class. Obama is truly helping the middle class. another f-cking joke.
The middle class has been hallowed out over decades.
I find it very interesting that people on the right blame Obama for EVERYTHING, while giving Bush a pass for what landed on Obama’s desk in 2009.
This tendency to load Obama with everything convinces me further just how clueless the average political junky is when it comes to the economy, how it works, as well as how long it takes to right when it crashes.
It means your average voter is positively ignorant on the economy, which explains the earlier post I did today, with the numbers likely scaring the crap out of Team Obama-Biden.
Though as it stands today, the race remains advantage Obama.
And Romney and the right wing in this country is going to do what for the middle class? More tax breaks for billionaires and millionaires? Turning medicare into a voucher system? Repealing the affordable care act and replacing it with what? Romney has no answers, but we should just take his word that he will take care of all us? What a bunch of crap.
