Earlier in the day, during the roll call of the states, it was notable that several black delegates were given the honor of casting their state’s ballots while surrounded by crowds of white faces. It would be easy to dismiss this as tokenism and window dressing — which, of course, it is — but there is something bigger behind it. Republicans truly believe that a rising tide lifts all boats, and that the best thing a poor Latino or an underemployed African American can do to better his or her condition is to vote for a party that intends to let rich people keep more of their money. – Republican National Convention puts a brown face on a white party
THE REPUBLICAN Party is dragging every semblance of minority balance on to center stage to prove they’re a diverse party. I wrote about Chuck Todd’s observation that the RNC brought the delegations with the most diversity down on the floor to create a better shot for the TV cameras.
CNN became the story last night after two people were ejected for taunting a CNN African American camera person.
Two people were removed from the Republican National Convention Tuesday after they threw nuts at an African-American CNN camera operator and said, “This is how we feed animals.”
[...] CNN also acknowledged the incident, saying, “CNN can confirm there was an incident directed at an employee inside the Tampa Bay Times Forum earlier this afternoon. CNN worked with convention officials to address this matter and will have no further comment.”
The speeches of Artur Davis and Mia Love were red hot.
MSNBC didn’t show either of them on the air. That both of them represented tokenism from a Republican Party whose nominee is polling zero with African Americans might be one reason why. What supports their decision is looking in the hall at the makeup of the delegates. The Republican Party simply doesn’t represent what America looks like today.

Don’t you want to throw in your ‘War on Women’ BS? Combining both houses of Congress, only 17.5% of them are women. Shouldn’t that number be more reflective of the makeup of America?
I am really starting to believe that the media is coordinaing all of this racisim stuff.
The media refuses to say anything complimentary about minority rising stars without tarnishing it with talk of racism. I seriously doubt the media will continue this practice next week during the DNC convention. Let them be GREAT even if you disagree with them. Last night hey defaced Mia’s Wikipedia page with ‘house nigger’ and ‘dirty worthless whore’. I know many minorities, myself included who don’t agree with most of Obama’s policies and that does not make us tokens.
Chris Matthews on Barack Obama: ”I closed my eyes and forgot he was Black for an hour.”
Maybe the media should close their eyes more often.

I saw the reports on Mia Love’s Wiki page. Disgusting.
Ms. Love blew the roof off in a short stem-winder. She was terrific.
Sasha,
When black folk make 13.1% of the US population but only 2% of a major political party, there is something very odd going on. The number of black folk who plan to vote for triple R (Republicans Romney and Ryan) is statistically speaking 0%, that is the number is so small in falls below the margin of error.
Republicans used to have the black vote locked up. They were the Party of Lincoln after all. In the 1960′s Republicans were the keystone vote for getting Civil Rights legislation passed. But that all changed with Goldwater.
What Goldwater began, Nixxon put on steroids with the Southern Strategy. From there, black participation in the Party of Lincoln has cratered. People of color have long memories, and watching old, nasty, Dixiecrats transmography into Republicans alienated the overwhelming majority of blacks from the GOP.
These are the realities of the early 21st Century politics in the USA. The Republicans are the party of old, pasty-white males. The Convention in Tampa is hovering somewhere around the 94% of the White Bread and Mayo set. Thus even if every other face in that crowd was umber huded, you are still talking about a fifty percent discounting of black folk vs real-world demographies at best.
But the African American discount is much higher because of the number of Cubans wondering the aisles. Thus black folk are significantly under-represented at Tampa. Yet here they are front and center, prominently displayed.
So what do you call a set of people who are deeply under-represented in the Republican Party yet held up like some fetish item? Tokens? Quite possibly. It’s a lot better than some of the more toxic labels being tossed around.
As for the defacing of Wikipedia pages, meh, no way to tell who did that. I would not put it past Carl Rove to have given the nod for the defacement to gin up back-lash.
I know many Black people who see the racism in both parties. Sometimes as a Black American it is easier to say you are Democrat because everyone else is, however I guarantee you there are many who vote for the best candidate and are not as loyal to the Democrats as the media will lead you to believe. Keep believing that 0% the media reports. I won’t because I know what is brewing out there. As far as history, I feel LBJ has more to do with large numbers of Black Americans voting Democrat. As I became more educated about politics, I became more Independent, and this was long before I dropped the D. I feel that the RNC minority speakers were more than a fetish, or token or any other toxic label being tossed around. Their speeches were outstanding and I call them great Americans. Maybe you too would benefit from closing your eyes.
Pasty-white males? Is this the new group to hate? I know quite a few pasty-white males who are very good men. Tell me, are you a pasty-white male? Does this sound ridiculous yet???
I find your statement blaming the Wiki page on Rove to marginalize the racism I know exists in both political parties. But it is much easier for someone on the outside to shrug their shoulders at disturbing behavior and use it for political gain. I am sure there are some who say that the CNN camera person was attacked by plants from the Dems to gin up back-lash. I say, ugly is ugly and it may have an R, I or D behind the name. That is one thing about ugly. It does not discriminate. The indifference in your last statement marginalizes everything else you said in your post. Meh – tells me all I need to know.
What’s odd is Martin Luther King was a Republcan. Democrats have become panderers to one voting constituency that has seen little improvement in their lives even though they overwhelmingly support a Democratic party that pretends to care. I find it also strange that the majority of black America is out of synch with the pro-gay stance of the Democrat party.
http://www.politifact.com/tennessee/statements/2012/jan/23/charlotte-bergmann/another-republican-claims-martin-luther-king-jr-wa/
That is a bald faced and proven lie.
I agree, but if course it’s not just the media. They work hand in hand with the Democratic party anymore. The media is behaving in the manner that the Democratic party instructs them to behave.
You can’t have minorities straying from the Democratic party orbit because they just might find that they have been lied to all these years, and the grass just might be greener somewhere else. More power to those who are willing to become more politically independent. It’s a freeing experience as many Hillary supporters have found out.
Your post is as hilarious as it is dishonest…keep up the comedy!!
“The Republican Party simply doesn’t represent what America looks like today.”
The repugnantklan/teabagger/UBERChristian party dosen’t represent what America EVER looked like….unless you take the Confederate States into account.
Angry white folks, minority sell outs and closeted gays overcompensating with gay bashing hatred …oh yeah, thanks PWT….and misogynistic war on women…..the repugnantklan/teabagger/UBERChristian party.
But, wouldn’t the Democrats also be guilty of a ‘War on Women’ since their delegation is not 51.1% female as is the population of the US?
Currently there are 6 female Governors.
4 Republicans
2 Democrats
“minority sell outs…’
This is really offensive.
Come on, secularh, your pithy lingo just turned rancid.
Reel him in Taylor!!! Lol
I agree with you about Mia. She is one to watch.
Secularhumanwhateverheis has always been nasty to the core, and you can’t blame that on partisanship. It’s character, and his sux.
I put them in the same boat as Log cabin Republicans and the Jews who were kapos in the camps, willing to sell their own people down the river to get some money or try to survive at the expense and cost of all others. Asses like Caine….what would you call them Ms. Marsh….when you are talking ABOUT something rancid…well, rancid describes it completely.
Words of a racist: minority sell outs
Where were you when Mia’s page was being defaced Sec???
#WhitePeopleProblems
May Falcor The Luck Dragon crap “clue bricks” on those calling people minority sellouts! I used to say that nonsense back in my fringe left/Black Nationalist days. Falcor crapped a big one on my head and I woke the heck up.
MORE racism from MSNBC. No surprise here.
Heya JoeCHI, good to “see” you.
MSNBC didn’t show either of them on the air (Artur Davis and Mia Love). Isn’t that just stupid? It not like last night was the only chance EVER for someone view their speeches.
Personally I’d rather watch the Curiosity Rover than Mia Love. And it has nothing to do with her. It’s just that she’s just a convention blip to show “something” about diversity among we black folks. See! Look at us. Outreach baby! There’s no such thing as minority sellouts and the term is insanely offensive. Minority opportunists? Yes there are those and they are in both parties. It’s what Mia Love is (opportunist) and frankly, do yo’ thang sista! I ain’t mad at ya. The political golden road has a much clearer path as a Black Republican than Black Democrat (whether you believe in the platform or not). But will the Republican Party be open to push a Mia Love into the leadership or groom her as gold. Nope. And I think that being a woman is what makes it a big nope.

So to hell with any responsibility to others just screw them to get yours? Nice philosophy!

Gee, what is the difference between Mia Love and Sarah palin….hmmmm….their both women….hmmmmmmm can’t IMAGINE her being Black would have anything to do with it can you?
MSNBC is a crap network. Very few people watch it, compared to other networks. It looks like they got rid of Keith Olbermann because they did the impossible – found an even bigger idiot. I was watching “UP” over the weekend and they went to great lengths to discuss in depth and detail how racist the Republican Party and Republicans are. I guess they hand to find another topic to fill time since MSNBC abondoning the “occupy” story.
” I was watching “UP” over the weekend and they went to great lengths to discuss in depth and detail how racist the Republican Party and Republicans are.”
Talk about a target rich environment!!!!!!!
