AS REPUBLICANS formulate their convention platform, the definition of equality and freedom are being rewritten.
“This would move us away from the benefits that marriage extends to a society,” objected Tony Perkins, the president of the Family Research Council and a Louisiana delegate.
A handful of other members rose up to oppose the measure, which failed as opponents raised their voices to loudly say “no.” About a dozen members of the more than 100 delegates in the room voted in favor.

Of course not because it would turn elderly Evangelical, practically the only people that vote for them away, and they just get more radical every year it seems.
And once again the republican party keeps their streak PERFECT except for that little blip with the Civil War thingy!! And frankly, they would like a redo on that one. The conSERvatives have been on the WRONG side of EVERY civil and human rights issue this country has dealt with. Bravo dead enders, keep that streak going as more people leave you on the ash heap of history!
My reaction to this was to wonder how much of the Democratic Party’s platform ever makes it into law, or even into draft legislation. The answer to that question, and related ones like whether the GOP’s platform does so more or less often than the Democrats’, might be instructional.
