“This 19 year old Shep being cradled in his father’s arms last night in Lake Superior… Shep falls asleep every night when he is carried into the lake. The buoyancy of the water soothes his arthritic bones. Lake Superior is very warm right now, so the temp of the water is perfect. I was so happy I got to capture this moment for John. By the way, John rescued Shep as an 8 month old puppy, and he’s been by his side through many adventures…” [Huffington Post]
THE STORY of how a little abused pup saved a man’s life.
The touching tale went viral on the wings of the photograph above by Hannah Stonehouse Hudson.

Awww.
Nineteen years is a long life for a big dog. Sad a thing though it is to see that come to an end, in some ways those two have been very lucky.
Thanks for positng this, Taylor.
We’re all in need of heartwarming real life stories like this one. It just puts a big smile on my face and makes me happy as I’m happy for this wonderful dog and his human companion. The look on both their faces is beautiful and really does warm the heart.
Second what you said, Cujo.
The hardest thing I’ve ever had to do in my life has been holding my pups when it was time to release them from pain while giving them the unconditional love they’d spent their lives giving me.
And I’ll do it again with the next pup too…in a heart beat.
I just love this shot and all it represents…
Me too! Thanks for this very touching Moment of Zen. It seems these days, whenever you turn on the TV or look anywhere on the internet, all you read about or hear about is laced with so much hatred. The election magnifies the hate by a zillion.
Such a wonderful story of love, which is what the world needs a whole lot more of. I ran across this youtube a few days ago.
Enjoy!
