You Olympians, however, know you didn’t get here solely on your own power. For most of you, loving parents, sisters or brothers, encouraged your hopes, coaches guided, communities built venues in order to organize competitions. All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Olympians, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities.
HYPOCRISY UNBOUND should be the title of campaign 2012, with Mitt Romney as the face of it, which dates to this flashback from the Opening Ceremonies at the Winter Olympics in 2002.
NBC’s Domenico Montanaro uncovered the quote for MSNBC’s “First Read” [h/t Joe Gandelman].

And guess what? The Democrats, who take pleasure in going for the capillaries, and not the jugular, will neglect this.
Hopefully Begala’s Super PAC won’t.
I think mittens may be taking the Ronnie RaygunZAP approach. say anything, make stuff up and just lie through your teeth. The sheer volume of lies and dishonestly overwhelms the media and so most of it goes by unchallenged.
Serves his campaign right for deciding to jump on a bandwagon of an outrage manufactured at Fox news. Obama’s statement was perfectly reasonable, only those absolutely determined to misunderstand him could have taken offense. In their determination to court the approval of the unhinged they are making Mitt behave like an idiot. Not sure he will still remember his name by November.
I’m hoping, too, that Begala’s Super Pac uses this hyprocrites lies against him. There is certainly a plethora now of this creep’s comments that should cause massive public nausea and repulsion. Those are two of the effects he’s had on me as I’ve listened to him speak and listen to others speak about him and their own personal experiences like the heartrenching recollection from Julie Goodridge which was posted by Joyce last week (and which needs to be used by Begala’s Super Pac as well) as part the “Mitt Gets Worse” campaign.
When she told about Romney’s comment to her when she asked him what she should tell her 8 year old daughter why her mommy and ma can’t marry and he icily turned to her and said:
I don’t care what you tell your adopted daughter. Why don’t you tell her what you’ve been telling her for the last 8 years.
How anyone could say that out loud to anyone is beyond any definition of humanity I know to be true. It goes to the core of who or what this man is as a human being.
Watching and listening to Ms. Goodridge speak about her experience with Romney and what he had to say to her about her family (and my family and many other families like ours by proxy) made me feel like someone walking in the dark and suddenly scrapping my face against a sharp, concrete wall. It was that gut wrenchingly painful to hear. I’m not ashamed to say that video made me cry.
I mean I knew this plastic, soulless, lying, hypocritical shitbag of a person (this is one exception where corporations have more of a right to that description than he does) was bad but I never thought of him as evil. And, I rarely use that word to describe someone. Now I am and now I will.
Frankly, I think the only family he cares about and/or has sympathy for is his own because he has no empathy or compassion when it oomes to others. He has proved that over and over again by his comments and behavior.
These two quotes sum the two-faced side to Romney for me:
The true hypocrite is the one who ceases to perceive his deception, the one who lies with sincerity. ~André Gide
The hypocrite’s crime is that he bears false witness against himself. What makes it so plausible to assume that hypocrisy is the vice of vices is that integrity can indeed exist under the cover of all other vices except this one. Only crime and the criminal, it is true, confront us with the perplexity of radical evil; but only the hypocrite is really rotten to the core. ~Hannah Arendt, On Revolution, 1963
Rotten to the core.

Here’s that Julie Goodridge video just in case some readers/commenters missed it when Joyce posted it last week.
The Salt Lake City Olympics has apparently become to Mitt Romney what 9/11 was to Rudy Guliani- his campaign’s only reason for being, and the only thing he wants to talk about beyond a generic “I know how to create jobs.”
Guys, this is a trap.
If anyone tries to call Romney out on his “hypocrisy” in stating that Olympians didn’t get there on their own, his campaign will simply say that there is no hypocrisy at all- “Obama thinks that you need Government to succeed, Mitt Romney thinks you need family.”
The Democrats shouldn’t even pick this up. If they do, they should drop it, fast. I think they are better off moving past the “you didn’t build that” distortion- sure it’s crap, but it’s crap that hurt, and bringing it back up won’t help Obama in the slightest.
It’s no trap, this is the second time he did it. The first time he did it, it was about business, banks etc, and the Democrats were too lame to strike back. They were too busy apologizing to his wife for using the dancing horse.
