NBC Lets Guy Adams Out of Twitter Jail

**UPDATED**

REPRESENTATIVE OF NBC’S aggressive content fencing, as well as their police grip on everything Olympics, when Guy Adams started ripping the network for their coverage of the London Olympic games, they took action. Twitter obliged.

As you can see above, he’s back, promising an article to follow.

…[update] and as promised, here it is: I thought the internet age had ended this kind of censorship.

Here are three things that NBC prevented their public from being able to watch on network television so far this Olympic Games: live footage of the opening ceremony; live footage of Saturday’s swimming showdown between Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte; live footage of the USA men’s basketball “dream team.”

A fourth thing they do not want people to see is the email address of Gary Zenkel, the executive responsible for this shambles. And a fifth thing is my Twitter feed, which over the weekend contained a couple of dozen occasionally uncouth observations about their coverage, several of which were accompanied by the trending hashtag: “#NBCfail.”

Postscript: …and spoiler alert… The U.S. women’s gymnastic team won the first gold medal since 1996 today. If you’ve been over the Huffington Post, Getty captures the picture.

One Response to NBC Lets Guy Adams Out of Twitter Jail

REPRESENTATIVE OF NBC’S aggressive content fencing, as well as their police grip on everything Olympics, when Guy Adams started ripping the network for their coverage of the London Olympic games, they took action. Twitter obliged.

 This is sickening. And, according to that article on Mashable:

The account ban touched off an international controversy — especially after it was reported by the Telegraph that Twitter had informed NBC, with whom it has an Olympics partnership, about the tweet — and walked it through the process of requesting his suspension.

Another international incident with the British in less than one week! As I’ve already said, NBC SUCKS for it’s coverage of London 2012 and lots of Americans feel the same way. And,Twitter informed NBC brass of Guy Adams’ tweets for it’s own selfish interests and looked to get him suspended from their own site by asking NBC to go along with their request (to further suck up to NBC because of their contract with them) to suspend them and screw their user base in the process.

And, here I thought Twitter was better than Facebook in this one regard. Silly me.

If this didn’t become an international incident because of what NBC and Twitter did in collusion to silence Adams, this may have gone under the radar and they may have gotten away with this crap.

This is control freakishness taken to oppressive levels. What the hell is NBC so scared about? Their coverage has not been stellar and some stupid and assinine programming decisions have been made and continue to be made. I doubt they will lose much in the way of an audience because they have a GD monopoly on what is shown in the States. The BBC was broadcasting the opening ceremonies, for example, live on the internet but you had to live in the UK to get access. NBC keeps bragging about how large their audience was for the opening ceremonies. Where the hell else was the American audience supposed to go to watch it? We’re captive and they damn well know it. It’s too bad that there is not more than one network invovled in broadcasting the games. Competition is a good thing for the consumer and right now NBC is driving this bus.

Also, I would have paid a fee to the BBC to have had access to their LIVE coverage of the Opening Ceremonies last Friday. The USA was the only country that didn’t see it Live.

I’m glad NBC (and Twitter) got caught. They deserve all the bad publicity they get over this.

Thanks for the heads up about this fiasco, Taylor. Guy Adams just got a new follower: me.
