High Time in the Hamptons for Mitt Romney’s Haves

BIG ROMNEY DONOR meet-up, with the Los Angeles Times offering some priceless tidbits.

The line of Range Rovers, BMWs, Porsche roadsters and one gleaming cherry red Ferrari began queuing outside of Revlon Chairman Ronald Perelman’s estate off Montauk Highway long before Romney arrived, as campaign aides and staffers in white polo shirts emblazoned with the logo of Perelman’s property — the Creeks — checked off names under tight security.

[...] A money manager in a green Jeep said it was time for Romney to “up his game and be more reactive.” So far, said the donor (who would not give his name because he said it would hurt his business), Romney has had a “very timid offense.”

A New York City donor a few cars back, who also would not give her name, said Romney needed to do a better job connecting. “I don’t think the common person is getting it,” she said from the passenger seat of a Range Rover stamped with East Hampton beach permits. “Nobody understands why Obama is hurting them.

“We’ve got the message,” she added. “But my college kid, the baby sitters, the nails ladies — everybody who’s got the right to vote — they don’t understand what’s going on. I just think if you’re lower income — one, you’re not as educated, two, they don’t understand how it works, they don’t understand how the systems work, they don’t understand the impact.”

Oh, people get how it works. The presidency is being bought. That’s how “the systems work.”

What wasn’t reported is that the perception problem flew right over Team Romney’s head.

Mitt’s making it WAY too easy for Democrats.

        Yep!

It’s not actually Mitt who’s making it easy, it’s the reporter. Can you imagine if this exact same kind of story had been written about Obama’s fund-raiser with George Clooney, or the one with Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker? It easily could have been — how about a description of George’s tuxedo and the the designer-clad guests climbing from their gleaming limos? But of course we can’t get that! Taylor, as one who wrote so extensively about the sexism in coverage about Hillary, I’m surprised that this escaped you.

That last quoted paragraph is priceless. Instead of the Hamptons and Range Rovers; switch it to Beverly Hills and Telsas and you probably will get total agreement from the Lifestyle Liberals.

And if Obama loses, a variation of that paragraph will be used by a lot of talking heads on the left….these lower income, uneducated people (racists?) just don’t/didn’t understand. blah, blah, blah.

      guyski-
One only need to go back to the 2008 San Francisco fundraiser where Obama accused those in the working class who weren’t warming to him and preferred Hillary of clinging to their gods and guns.

But I am trying to figure out which part of being screwed by the 1% the folks in the Hamptons don’t think we “common” folk get? The part about how Bain took over companies, fired all the people who were making a decent wage and then offered to hire them back at much lower salaries? Or, the part about how “trickle-down” economics is really “tinkle on” economics? Or the part about Mittens not being forth-coming on his tax returns? Or the part about all of his offshore money? Or, the part about how he and Obama are just 2 different sides of the same 1% coin and how he stands to hurt us commoners even worse that Obama????

I could go on and on, but me thinks it is the 1% Hamptonites who just don’t get it.

Guyski, you wouldn’t know the meaning of the word liberal if it walked up & bit you on the a**. . Don’t you ever get embarrassed repeating Fox sound bytes? You are the uneducated one and you will be among the first to come whining for help if the tea bagging, rabid right gets it’s way.

      • guyski July 9, 2012 at 9:28 am #

Be careful and read. I said ‘lifestyle liberal’, there is a difference than a real liberal. Also, I do not think the all ominous FOX even uses the term ‘lifestyle liberal.’

If people can’t pick up the hypocrisy that comes from both sides of the political spectrum, then that is their problem. Just look at the hyprocrisy spewed before/after the Supreme Court ruling on health care.

Oh, boy is this rich! Perelman the guy that the GOP was so convinced was involved in some sort of conspiracy with Bill Clinton 15 years ago is now somebody that they want to hang out with?

And talk about people who are massively out of touch with the voting public. Wow, just wow is all i can say.
