Bill Clinton to Headline Democratic Convention

PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON will not only give a prime-time convention speech, but afterward Clinton will put President Obama’s name into nomination at the Democratic convention in September.

From the New York Times:

The prominent role of Mr. Clinton, which is scheduled to be announced on Monday, signals an effort by the Obama campaign to pull out all the stops to rally Democrats when they gather for their party’s national convention in Charlotte, N.C. An even more important audience will be the voters across the country who will see the address carried by television networks.

“There isn’t anybody on the planet who has a greater perspective on not just the last four years, but the last two decades, than Bill Clinton,” David Axelrod, a top strategist to the Obama campaign, said in an interview on Sunday. “He can really articulate the choice that is before people.”

It’s being described as a “central role” from Pres. Clinton at the convention.

So I guess Obama has learned the lessons Al Gore never learned: don’t burn your bridges behind you, call out the cavalry when in trouble and very quietly, using somebody else’s intelligence, wit and force of rhetoric, rip your enemies throats out.

    • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 7:35 am #

Democrats better hope so and this is a good sign that what you say is true. Though Obama didn’t rise to the top by being a nice guy. Ask Alice Palmer.

  2. Art Pronin July 30, 2012 at 3:35 am #

O might as well use Bill here. Bill is a huge asset…

    • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 7:36 am #

Huge asset is right, because Clinton is reportedly going to talk economics as well.

  3. Beth in suburban Chicago July 30, 2012 at 8:19 am #

Clinton should have told Obama to stuff it.

    • Solo July 30, 2012 at 9:53 am #

Let go of your hate Beth, it leads to the dark side!

  4. Beth in suburban Chicago July 30, 2012 at 8:20 am #

(That was, obviously, the vindictive person speaking, not a practical person who realizes politics trumps all, and Bill will relish being in the spotlight. But after Obama treated him … just makes me mad, that’s all.)

    • T-Steel July 30, 2012 at 8:54 am #

Something tells me that whatever view of “Obama did Bill Clinton wrong” that is on the outside, it doesn’t exist nearly as much between the two. Taylor has written much about how Obama is not a political nice guy. I don’t think Bill Clinton’s “relishing the spotlight” is all that’s in play personally from him. He probably respects Obama due to his “not playing nice politically” (especially while campaigning).

Nevertheless, Bill Clinton will “set it off” at the Democratic National Convention. Perfect person to do so due to his presence and savvy. Not enough for me to watch any of the convention live. LOL

    • Solo July 30, 2012 at 9:48 am #

Exactly how did President Obama treat President Clinton? For the record I think your first post was the real you!

  5. Lake Lady July 30, 2012 at 8:40 am #

I can’t help but think that the President would be in a much better position today if he had embraced Clinton’s political genius from the get go, especially around the midterms
    and during the healthcare debate.

  6. jinbaltimore July 30, 2012 at 9:41 am #

I guess Obama got over Clinton’s “racism” from ’08.

    • Solo July 30, 2012 at 9:50 am #

The then candidate Obama never called President Clinton a racist. That’s a zombie lie the looney left insists on clinging to!

TM Note – I’ve warned solo and others innumerable times. The “looney left” is inappropriate around here, as are your other insults. Please refrain from them.

      • Solo July 30, 2012 at 11:09 am #

“The “looney left” is inappropriate around here, as are your other insults.” That’s rich considering your site is filled each day with insults directed at President Obama and his supporters. Obot and Obamabot are cool but looney left is an insult! LOL!

        • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 11:19 am #

The “looney left” around here is critical of their own, very seldom putting a politician above policy and issues.

Obot and Obamabots are never critical of Pres. Obama and continue to put fan politics and celebrity above issues and policy.

          There’s a big difference.

Please feel free to take your comments elsewhere.

          • Solo July 30, 2012 at 11:37 am #

Fan Politics? Again your profile picture is an image of Hillary Clinton! You wrote a book about her but you accuse others of fan politics! LOL!

          • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 11:48 am #

You have obviously not read the book, which isn’t surprising. You don’t live in the world where you have to back up your arguments.

It’s hilarious that you don’t even comprehend that of all the pictures my publisher & I could have picked, we didn’t pick a flattering shot of Clinton, for which I took a lot of crap.

Seriously, solo, you just keep revealing yourself as someone whose critical thinking has been left on a shelf.

          • Solo July 30, 2012 at 12:19 pm #

The topic was putting people above policy and you turn it into which Hillary Clinton image you and your publisher chose to but on the cover of your book! There nothing to comprehend about your book cover cause that was not the issue. My critical thinking abilities are just fine your the one with the problem. Your the one with an inability to maintain a train of thought! Concentrate! You can’t be a diehard Hillary Clinton supporter and at the same time criticize President Obama’s supporters for being loyal to their candidate.

        • jinbaltimore July 30, 2012 at 12:14 pm #

Guessing the looney left is what used to be known as simply “the Left,” a current embarrassment, apparently, to the Moderate Mercenaries.

  7. TPAZ July 30, 2012 at 10:24 am #

Obama is hoping the Big Dawg will buy him some cover while in non-union North Carolina celebrating Democratic Party principles. The party is running short on money, no one on the ground has Obama back, except Bank of America, maybe, and dirty tricks will occur everywhere. Romney has twice used buses to taunt Obama rallies and Mitt has more money than God at his disposal. This convention will be a disaster followed by the Obots blaming the Clintons for its failure if things go horribly wrong. I suggest you cover your eyes.

    • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 10:33 am #

TPAZ, much of what you say nails it.

      • Solo July 30, 2012 at 10:52 am #

OMFG! You think TPAZ “nailed it”? Hahahahaha! There is distinct pattern to President Obama’s tenure that just never fails. He does something or makes a decision his enemies on both the left and the right attack. A few months later? Vindication! The decision turns out dead on! The auto bailout, ACA, The Bin Laden raid, the Libya operation and so on and so on! He nailed it! Wow!

        • jinbaltimore July 30, 2012 at 11:04 am #

I guess vindication is in the eye of the beholder.

        • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 11:22 am #

Apply some critical thinking, “much” does not imply all.

Please, again, take your cheerleading elsewhere.

This is a site for people who think.

          • Solo July 30, 2012 at 11:53 am #

Much may not imply all but “nails it” does! “This is a site for people who think. No doubt! For people who think President Obama is always wrong. As for your suggestion that I take my comments elsewhere I think I will do just that! I’ll leave you to spend all your time preaching to your very small choir! Peace out! Obama2012!

    • Solo July 30, 2012 at 10:37 am #

Another Obama hater predicting doom for this President and again will be proven wrong come the convention. The Dems and Obama4America are not running low on cash, does Romney and the people backing have more money? Yes! He’s a 1% so of course he is going to have more money but that doesn’t automatically mean Dems r cash strapped. And for the love of God when are you people going to get over the Bank Of America Stadium thing? Every new stadium in the country is named after a corporation. The Lakers play in the Staples Center, the Detroit Lions play in Ford Field, The Detroit Tigers play in Comerica Park. Jesus Christ just get over it already! Damn!

      • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 11:24 am #

        you people

When are Obama loyalists going to get over yourselves?

You are for corporate politicians like Obama and Romney.

Channeling Ann Romney’s inner dialogue isn’t very convincing.

        • Solo July 30, 2012 at 11:56 am #

If u really were the massive intellectual you fancy yourself to be you would know that Ann Romney was the first to use those words. So your channeling charge is just stupid!

        • Solo July 30, 2012 at 11:58 am #

          Wasn’t the first!

        • Uh-oh July 30, 2012 at 12:24 pm #

Give it up, Taylor. Solo HATES everybody who he/she has decided hates Obama. Anyone who disagrees with anything Obama has ever done hates Obama, according to Solo. As I have said before, most of us don’t HATE Obama, we just don’t care anymore.

As for the 1%–Obama is also a multimillionaire, hardly an example of the middle class.

          • Taylor Marsh July 30, 2012 at 1:01 pm #

Obama loyalists like this are doing their guy a disservice, especially when they attack me, which is stupid, given I’ve been one of the fairest and most informative political analysts on facts versus fiction on foreign policy where Obama is concerned.

The whole “hate Obama’ bs is representative of the juvenile fan politics persona of loyalists like him. You’d think he could make a case for Obama w/o the insults, but he can’t, though RAJensen has no problem doing so.

          • Solo July 30, 2012 at 1:48 pm #

Comments like this one is what infuriates Obama supporters. President was born to a poor teenage mother with whom our future President spent a year on food stamps. He has money now because he was able to over come the circumstances of his birth and made something of himself. He worked for everything he has, so did his wife. Comments like your makes it seem as if he is some undeserving blue blood who was rich the day he was born. You can disagree with the President all you want but when the likes of you try to paint a false picture of the man that’s when I have a problem!

      • TPAZ July 30, 2012 at 6:37 pm #

Please tell your friends to stop sending me 15 emails every day asking me to “chip in” $3, or $5, or $25 bucks since you people have adequate amounts of money. I know where you people are if I have a few bucks to spare.

      • TPAZ July 30, 2012 at 6:50 pm #

Dude, get a clue. do you know who Obama is? http://youtu.be/ivFPkvWj8zw

  8. c chicago July 30, 2012 at 1:17 pm #

Seems like in Solo’s world you can’t like Hillary Clinton without hating Barack Obama.

There are no haters on this site, no crazy birthers on this site – just some fair and informed criticism of Obama when it’s warranted.

    • Solo July 30, 2012 at 1:52 pm #

Really no haters? Maybe if people on this site would refer to President Obama’s supporters as just that “supporters” and not Obots or Obamabots maybe I would buy that!

      • jinbaltimore July 30, 2012 at 2:38 pm #

Obama supporters who derided certain Bush policies but now defend those very same policies (e.g. “entitlement reform”) under Obama earn the terms cited above.

        • Solo July 30, 2012 at 5:44 pm #

          Again! Not the point!

          • TPAZ July 30, 2012 at 6:47 pm #

That is exactly the point – hypocrisy!

  9. T-Steel July 30, 2012 at 3:03 pm #

    I agree with President Obama’s Space/Universe Policy and I’m an Obamabot on Space/Universe Policy. Other than that… eh… ;-)

    • TPAZ July 30, 2012 at 6:46 pm #

Funny, that’s what killed it for me when BHO ended America’s manned space program. At the moment, America decided to no longer lead to world in progress and imagination.

  10. Lake Lady July 30, 2012 at 7:46 pm #

Solo~ Biography is not everything. You can’t shed your past like a snakeskin bringing little empathy for those not so gifted and then fall back on it when you want support.
