Ann Romney is Wrong: 54-37% People Want Mitt To Release his Taxes

“We’ve given all… [you].. people need to know and understand about our financial situation and how we live our life.” – Ann Romney on “Good Morning America” [Politico]

IT’S NOT REALLY what Ann Romney said, as much as how her interview came off, which is why “[you] people” went viral, like a political heat seeking missile ricocheting through the new media system at super sonic speed. For a lot of people now, Ann Romney has been defined. I can’t serve you cake, but it’s the dish of the day.

In fact, New York magazine didn’t even hear “you people,” but the magazine’s commenters didn’t care. The Twitterverse exploded with #YouPeople, hilarious 140 character laugh lines in a rapid fire contagion, one after another as viral became global. It’s never a good idea to do an interview with a chip on your shoulder, because whether Mrs. Romney actually said “you people” or not, that’s what people heard, because this is how she sounded…

Seriously, what do “you people” expect?

In the last two years alone, my husband and I have tithed $1.5 and $2.6 million, and given $7 million to charity. To get received, we have to pay, not that I mind, no really, I don’t.

What have you people done?

We even gave up our elevator for you people. What’s going to be enough?

Honestly, my Mitt is “a very generous person.” I’ve got stuff.

And haven’t you people read anything about my Mitt? All the people he’s helped. He saved the Olympics! Do you really “think that is the kind of person who is trying to hide things, or do things?” Private equity is what it is, deal with it. At least the guy got paid to build the stage.

Oh, and when he was Massachusetts governor he didn’t take a salary. I won’t even go into all the money we had to move around to make that one work! Christmas was a nightmare.

And don’t get me started on “how disappointed” I am in Barack Obama and all those mean ads he’s running attacking Mitt on Bain Capital and making money. He’s doing God’s work, don’t you people know anything? Helping the poor, making another hundred million, it’s all the same to us.

I don’t need anyone to give me talking points. “It was beneath the dignity of the office of the president to do something as egregious as that.” Corporations are people too, you know, and we represent corporations and a lot of you people.

Let me tell you something else. That dancing horse ad? “It makes me laugh, it’s like, ‘Really?’” That’s the best you’ve got? Besides, there are so many of you people out of work out there, you’ll be asking yourself “in the voting booth in November: Are you better off now?” No, wait, what was it Ronald Reagan said? I can never remember…. um… Oh, right. Are you better off than you were four years ago? No, wait, that puts everyone back when the financial crisis exploded, when Pres. Bush was… [adjusts silk top]…

But really, “Do you really think the future is going to be brighter on the path we’re on, or do you think we need a change?”

“I already sort of know the answer,” I just wish I was sure, because you people are so ungrateful. The economy would be in a sink hole if it weren’t for all the taxes rich people pay… well, we don’t pay them, er.. I mean, we pay enough, so you people don’t have to.

Mark my words, you people are “going to fire the coach because things aren’t going well.” I mean, they are for us, but.. well… You’d be up a creek without a yacht if we weren’t.

[...]

You do know “the coach” is Pres. Obama, right?

I’m never sure if I’m getting through to you people.

A majority of Americans, including almost a third of Republicans, say GOP presidential contender Mitt Romney should release more tax returns than the two years he has promised to disclose, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds. [...] By 54%-37%, they say Romney should release tax returns from additional years. Those calling for more disclosure include 75% of Democrats, 53% of independents and 30% of Republicans.Poll: Most say Romney should release additional tax returns [USA TODAY/GALLUP]

We remember then First Lady Candidate Michelle Obama was pilloried by some for the “For the first time in my life, I’m proud of my country remark”. It was completely unfair and downright stupid for her to receive the venom. Her statement twisted into this “black folks hate America” screed. A statement that should have been looked as a validation of how great out country is. She had some doubts in her country due to her perceptions and experiences. And they were blown away. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that!

But ol’ Ann Romney. Ann… Ann… Ann… Your husband is under assault by Team Obama for BainTax. And you go Marie Antoinette aloof-style on ‘em on BainTax. You play right into an image and played it well. Unlike the FLOTUS comment which spoke to a vindication, your interview spoke to a “behind mansion walls” lifestyle that “you can’t get in… NYAAH NYAAH NYAAH!”.

What a yuck moment for Team Romney…

The GOP has always played the racial deviseness card ever since the passage of the Civil Rights and Voting rights acts of 1965 when they saw the opportunity to attract Jim Crow white Democrats, especially in the old Confederate states . Now we have proof. Supporters of photo-ID laws. Racial resentment is tied to support for voter-ID laws.

This is in line with T-Steels comments on Michelle Obama’s quote taken out of context and translated to the GOP’s dog whistle of ‘black folks hate America’, the hypocracy by the GOP accusing Civil Rights leaders of ‘playing the race card’ anf Fox News almost weekly barrage of ‘Blacks behaving badly’ faux scandals.

A few days ago I said that if Romney wins the first thing he will do is wipe his feet on the middle class and the poor. It’s now obvious that if he’s too busy the ice box queen will have no trouble filling in. She probably has as many shoes as Marcos.

Good Lord! Why are the Romney’s sabotaging themselves? First it was Mitt, now his wife has officially been defined as the reincarnation of Leona Helmsley…

I chalk this up to another reason not to vote for Mittens…however, since I am not voting for Obama either this year…I do find this all hilarious in how the Romneys are helping Team Obama… define the republican ticket.

“you people” OY. Recall when HW Bush used that term talking to Jewish voters and got slammed. It really hurt him. Poor Mitt-cant catch a break this summer

“You people” only count as three-fifths the total, so technically, only 34.2% of people want Romney to release his taxes.

    37% say No
    34% say Yes

Eat that proles, true Americans have spoken!

ABC and others now say she didn’t say “you people” — just to diffuse things a bit:

It doesn’t matter, all these lefties know that she meant it anyway. Sad.

The problem is that they have no leg to stand on, so they resort to contempt for the people. Since Bush Sr all presidents and contenders (except McCain I think) have released at least 10 years of tax returns. Romney’s own father set the trend by releasing 12 years of tax records.

But Ann Romney is right on one point. Releasing their returns will lead to more attacks, not from GOP diehards though. Heck if as suspected it is revealed that somehow the Romneys found a perfectly legal way to pay effectively 0% tax over a long period of time, Mitt might even become their new hero, especially after him raising his middle finger (figuratively) at “the blacks” at the NAACP convention. But to those who are not heavily invested in Obama hate and who are paying their taxes, hmmm that might seem a tad unfair.

Rumor has it that in addition to cayman and other offshore bank accounts part of Mitt’s tax evading kit was to set himself as a charity due to his high profile position in his church and pay 0% tax on the millions he made by destroying other people’s jobs and pensions at Bain.

I want some of the 0% tax action! Legal, too? Woo hoo! LOL

I feel for Mrs. Romeny because of her illness as I would for anyone who is going through MS or AIDS or cancer, etc. And, I wish her well and I hope she continues to get better.

Now that her husband has made her his main spokesperson and representative and she consented to play that role as well as his wife, she is now subject to criticism as any other surrogate is subject to during her husband’s campaign.

I’ll leave the question of whether or not she said “you people” to others. I won’t agrue with the likes of people like PWT who only reverts to type and rants about lefties in these situations. Knock yourself out PWT and those like you.

My problem with what Mrs. Romney said was what Rachel Maddow pointed out last night on her program and I’ll leave this post with that video and say “what Maddow said” (and for those who know me around here, I am not a Maddow “devotee”).

Mr. and Mrs. Romney are perfect for each other. Ugh. Meh.
