A Quote from Mitt Romney’s Book

JUST WHEN TEAM Romney thought today couldn’t get any worse.

Foreign Policy mines Mitt Romney’s book No Apology.

England [sic] is just a small island. Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn’t make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy. And if it hadn’t been separated from the continent by water, it almost certainly would have been lost to Hitler’s ambitions. Yet only two lifetimes ago, Britain ruled the largest and wealthiest empire in the history of humankind. Britain controlled a quarter of the earth’s land and a quarter of the earth’s population.

Well, I’m not defending him but isn’t most of it true. I’m sure he’s pretty much lost the British vote since no one wants to be reminded of what they lost. I think his insults about the Olympics will resonate more. The Brits were able to get everything done on time and on budget. There have been some minor issues like turning London into a militarized police state and actually telling people to stay in their houses but who’s counting. Romney should be relieved that Cameron didn’t bring up that little 1.5 billion dollar bailout Romney got from U.S. taxpayers to you know, ” save the Olympics. ” What is it Romney said about Obama, he hates success, or something like that. He must have been talking about his success in swindling taxpayers in order to save his own ass.

I teach Advanced Placement History, and have been doing so for more than 12 years. I don’t know about the size of the houses in England, but the rest of the quote is 100 percent true. What were we supposed to get out of this post- that Romney is not a very good ass-kisser?

Oh it gets better. Boris Johnson is ripping into the Mittster for the enjoyment of a crowd of 60,000 and the British press is eating the Mighty Mormon alive.

    Woof!

If Mitt really does like firing people, he can start axing people in his campaign team. Whoever came up with idea of trying to match BHO 2008 foreign policy barnstorming effort needs to be pink slipped stat.

I’m gobsmacked, I’ve watched politics a long time, since 1968 (as a very precocious grade schooler), and I’ve never seen such political mis/malfeasance in all that time. Only Mitt’s dad come close with his “brainwashing” quote on Vietnam. On the Democratic side you have to reach back to 1972 and the disastrous nomination of Eagleton as VP. But that was mostly side-show as McGovern did not have a prayer against Nixon’s reelect even before that crash and burn.

It is a really good thing for Romney that we are in the silly season and no one is really paying attention. If they were, Mr. Magic Underwear man would be done for. This trip is turning out to be a sparkling example of Romney’s complete lack of Bone Fides in Foreign Affairs. “Mr. Leader” ? Really Mitt? I’m sure that went over real well with Labour leader Ed Miliband.

Wow! Just wow. This is the best candidate the Republicans could come up with in 2012? Oh, right, it was, because the real heavy weights sat this election cycle out.

You guys should absolutely enjoy a day of mindless schadenfreude today. Celebrate the notion Romney is an idiot. Of course, do not think about the fact that if Obama is averaging 1.3% above Romney in the RCP head to head average that leaves Obama where? Yes, exactly, 1.3% above idiot status. A great service you are truly doing this country putting him in the highest office of the nation. I salute your integrity.

You can also revel in what promises to be an awesome and unique honor for the Obama legacy……..if re-elected, he will replace both Richard Milhouse Nixon and George Walker Bush in having the lowest approval rating of any US President elected.

It is indeed a great day to be a Democrat.

You have a special talent for fatuous argument, I must say:

if Obama is averaging 1.3% above Romney in the RCP head to head average that leaves Obama where? Yes, exactly, 1.3% above idiot status.

Since when is the smarter idea automatically the popular one, or vice-versa?

If Obama were a competent President, this election would be a cake walk for him. But, he not only screwed up at fixing the economy, he didn’t even want to look like he was trying.

If Romney were a competent candidate, he’d be ahead in the polls already. With long-term unemployment at levels not seen since the last depression, you’d think just about anyone would be seen as a better alternative. Yet here Romney is, a point and a half behind.

If you have to work for a living, there’s no reason to like either one of these guys, and the only reason that they’re as close as they are to each other, I suspect, is because a coin lands heads-up about half the time.

Actually I’m “enjoying” this only to prevent myself from crying CO. A major political party in the US nominated a man utterly clueless on foreign affairs and national security matters. Mitt is demonstrably the weakest candidate ever to run against a vulnerable sitting president. As Cujo359 rightly points out Romney should be winning in walk against 8.2% unemployment and the general drift of BHO. Romney should be wiping the floor with Barry.

But Romney proves again and again what a disconnected, over-privileged twit he is. All he had to do was stay boring and bland. All he had to do is utter boiler-plate about how wonderful that London was having an Olympics. But no, he lets one of his aids go off the reservation about Anglo-Saxon values, and then insults his host about how they don’t have their ducks in row.

Jesus H. Christ CO, that is some really bad politicking. First rule of these kinds of junkets : do no harm. Second rule : see the first rule.

So for the last forty eight hours Mitt has been in melt down. He has become the subject and the butt of jokes. He can not afford this CO; he just can not. If the election becomes an referendum on Mitt, he looses. Obama wins merely because he sucks less.
