WHILE REPUBLICANS WERE SQUEALING about Pres. Obama “spiking the football” yesterday over the OBL raid and using the anniversary of his assassination to score political points, Mitt Romney was meeting with Mr. 9/11, aka Rudy Giuliani, for lunch at Engine 24/ladder 5 firehouse that lost 11 men on that day.
Romney brought lunch. Joe’s Pizza on Carmine Street in SoHo was the choice.
A protester greeted him by screaming “Mitt Romney, you’re a racist” over a dozen times, giving another example of why so many people hate politics.
Romney didn’t miss a beat.
The caterwauling coming from Republicans didn’t cause Pres. Obama to miss one either.
The corrected statement should have been “Mitt Romney, you’re an elitist jerk,” that would have been much more accurate.
Also, I think Mitt Romney is many things…but I don’t believe he is racist. The biggest personal hurdle Romney has is that he can be perceived as being out of touch with middle class voters and robotic with his campaign messaging.
These types of things can hurt you in a close election. Romney is just not as a likable character. I know folks keeping saying we should likable should be a non-factor…but almost every previous president that has won…was…generally liked. People are more motivated to go out an vote for the person they like versus the one they hate. Kerry vs. Bush is a perfect example of this happening…I think.
