Karl Rove’s Sour Grapes that Obama Got OBL

As for the killing of Osama bin Laden, Mr. Obama did what virtually any commander in chief would have done in the same situation. Even President Bill Clinton says in the film “I hope that’s the call I would have made.” For this to be portrayed as the epic achievement of the first term tells you how bare the White House cupboards are.Wall Street Journal

Only a Republican could get away with a statement like this one.

Karl Rove obviously didn’t read The New Yorker‘s account of “Getting Bin Laden,” by Nicholas Schmidle.

Mr. Rove’s entire op-ed is a petty belch, but the real insult is Rove’s flippant assertion that the mission to kill Osama bin Laden inside Pakistan wasn’t an “epic achievement” by SEAL Team Six, as well as one hell of a gamble by Pres. Obama.

What gives Rove the nerve to be so disrespectful?

It’s that he knows Democrats won’t mount an argument and make what he wrote in his Wall Street Journal op-ed an issue.

It’s because he doesn’t know the risk or the cost of such a mission. He’s a man who never served a day or faced an armed enemy, but who did have the gall to expose a C.I.A. NOC, Valerie Plame, causing sources to be burned, all for political reasons.

Karl Rove, a creature of Lee Atwater, is someone who began our walk into scorched earth partisanship, which he shows today by making the killing of Osama bin Laden a partisan event.

For this to be portrayed as the epic achievement of the first term tells you how bare the White House cupboards are. – Karl Rove

Can you imagine the spectacle Republicans would have made about a Democrat equal to Rove’s standing saying the killing of the mastermind of 9/11 wasn’t an “epic achievement”? Limbaugh and Hannity’s heads would have exploded, with Fox News running clips of the slur all day long.

Rove also forgets that one other commander in chief didn’t exactly think bin Laden on the loose mattered.

“I just don’t spend that much time on him, to be honest with you.” – Pres. George W. Bush (see video above)

The Democrats should have taken Karl Rove to the woodshed on this one.

Pres. Obama did what George W. Bush didn’t do and couldn’t get accomplished. He did it by ordering a very risky mission inside of Pakistan that was significantly dangerous. By all accounts it was harrowing, with the booty recovered inside Osama bin Laden’s lair reportedly impressive, making it worth the risk, according to experts.

There is no hope for us unless we can all agree on certain very simple facts and the appreciation of a job well done for this country.

One of those is the order by Pres. Obama and the subsequent carrying out of the mission to kill Osama bin Laden by SEAL Team Six.

Michael Moore and others have argued bin Laden should have been tried, but that’s another subject. There should be no disagreement, disrespect or dissembling of the magnitude of what Pres. Obama ordered done.

That Karl Rove would reveal his sour grapes openly and without a hint of self-awareness on the op-ed page of the Wall Street Journal is an unprecedented act of gracelessness.

Taylor this is why I thought from the beginning that Obama was the wrong person to be running for President back in ’08. He just doesn’t have the chops to put down the Karl Roves of this world. I keep telling people you are never going to be able to work with today’s Republicans. You are never going to get them to like you. Trying to reason with them is like trying to reason with the Taliban. What is wrong with Obama that he doesn’t recognize evil? And I don’t use that word lightly but people like Karl Rove are amoral and evil. These people have to be defeated time and again. I’m not a fan of everything Andrew Cuomo is doing in New York but he’s on the right track with making the GOP grovel and squirm. I wouldn’t be surprised if he had Republicans cleaning the bathrooms in the Governor’s mansion when they weren’t in session. Hillary recognized the GOP for what they were–religious extremists (another word I don’t use lightly either). Why can’t Obama recognize any of this? You are good at political analysis and I would like to hear your thoughts.

No amount lying by Karl Rove will be able to take away from President Obama’s achievement! The President demonstrated solid judgement every step of the way. Reopening the CIA’s Bin Laden unit (Which Bush disbanded) & sending in boots instead on just sending in the drones! The later decision not only allowed to be to prove to the world OBL was dead but it also allowed us to gather up a treasure trove of info that lead to the roll up of other terrorists! All Rove does every time he mentions OBL is too remind people of the U.S. Military’s led by President Obama triumph over terrorists!

It’s really just a mirror reflecting what has become of this country. No longer is it a unified nation but a group of divergent factions. One party a hate filled rabble with a distorted vision of an America that never existed anywhere but in their minds. The remaining party a collection of craven collaborators so drenched in special interest money and power and influence as to make opposition a dirty word. When in the history of this country has the leader of one party stepped forward and said loud and clear that their only goal is to remove the present man from the white house. More importantly though, where was the outrage when he said it. This is the salient point, the incredible lack of outrage for this and the many other assaults by this party and it’s members not only on this president but on the constitutional rights of it’s citizens. Cujo is correct, they fear no reprisals, for there will be none; not only from the other party but from the people who represent that party. WHY? I believe it is so because the people are riven, more so than at anytime since the civil war. They have created a tinderbox of a nation through their blind and reckless actions in the voting booth. No economic recovery will save this country from itself, for it has lost it’s soul. Edward R. Murrow once famously said, ” An electorate of sheep begets a government of wolves. ” Karl Rove heads the wolf pack, and the sheep are sleeping.

Why doesn’t he do it then? He completely grovels in the presence of the GOP.

It’s sad that we’ve apparently reached the point where we must either endorse the illegal murder of a foreign national by a hit squad sent into a sovereign nation- “murder” being the correct word as Bin Laden was never put on trial for his alleged crimes (I would point out to the foaming-mouthed “he ADMITTED HE DID IT!” crowd that suspects who confess are STILL given a trial, not just thrown against a wall and shot, to have their bodies thrown into the ocean) OR be labeled an Anti-Obama lunatic.

There happen to be plenty of us Progressives out there who actually practice what we preach- we don’t support Presidents who misuse their authority to practice Might Makes Right, It’s Ok Because We Want To Do It But Don’t YOU Ever Try It Or You’ll Experience Massive Retaliation, regardless of the party they claim to represent.

I know the vast majority of Americans have “no problem” with the killing of Bin Laden- in fact, it’s clearly a political plus. Just shows how demented even the “left” has become in their definition of what it means to be “tough” and “Presidential.”

“Michael Moore and others have argued bin Laden should have been tried, but that’s another subject.:

“Another subject” which we have no interest of ever, ever taking up, because if you do, you are labeled a terrorist-loving, America-hating Wuss who Doesn’t Remember 9/11.

” There should be no disagreement, disrespect or dissembling of the magnitude of what Pres. Obama ordered done.”

Sounds like an order more suited to Germany circa 1939 than the United States in 2012.

      You are not alone, jjamele.

No, you and jjamele are not alone. You are in fine company with Rove and crew. The utterly disconnected from reality, utterly delusional gibbering in your fever dreams crowd.

        • jinbaltimore March 23, 2012 at 10:57 am #

can’t remember the last time I gibbered in my dreams; how about you, jjamele?

Thank you, as always, for the prepubescent point of view, Secular.

Where your are wrong (this time) is Rove would have heaped craploads of praise on Bush/Cheney if they’d gotten Bin Laden, whereas I wouldn’t. And I guess you would have agreed with them, right? After all, getting Bin Laden is getting Bin Laden, correct?

Illegal murder? You’ve got to be kidding. You talk like Bin Laden was some innocent bystander who happened to get killed by a bunch of crazed Americans. Bin Laden declared war on the US and sent his soldiers here and killed 6000 innocent people.
Killing enemy combatants who have declared war on us is not a illegal murder. This was a military operation into a enemy stronghold to neutralize and take out enemy combatants, not shoot up a bunch of innocent civilians.

I can tell by your comments that you have never been in a combat, because you seem to think that there were other options besides going in and neutralizing Bin Laden. Remember the man didn’t raise his hands up and surrender, instead he tried to use the AK47 he had, but it just so happened he didn’t get the chance.

  9. jinbaltimore March 23, 2012 at 11:28 am #

    “neutralize” LOL

But you’re correct that it wasn’t “illegal murder.” Now that Obama has signed NDAA into law, and the US has decided to be at “war” forever, there can be no such thing as illegal murder, abroad or on US soil.

“Nothing’s too good for the man who shot Liberty Valance!”

Sorry, that’s probably an obscure movie reference now. But you can look it up.
From those wonderful folks who brought you the fabulous tales of Jessica Lynch and Pat Tillman comes the intrepid tale of Seal Team Six and their relentless hunt for the Devil Himself. Who knows how long it will be when the Unravelling begins? Actually, this tale is holding up pretty well considering all the dropped stitches. The Team spends 45 minutes or an hour gathering up valuable intel after arbitrarily deciding, in the field, to exterminate the single most valuable source of information on the planet. And, by the way, no need to request instructions before deciding to give OBL a Viking funeral with no one in attendance except other warriors. After all, Seal Team Six has DNA-testing capabilities that are the envy of the entire scientific community. I mean, have you seen how fast Abby Sciuto is on NCIS? Thanx, Abbs!!
I guess Newt doesn’t have the stones to go up against fictional tv characters but maybe Sherriff Joe can do it after the birther investigation. Will we ever get the real story?

    • jjamele March 23, 2012 at 1:18 pm #

No, because nobody wants it. Osama was Our Enemy, and therefore the Law did not apply to him, period. He was an “enemy combatant”- because we said so. Which made it ok to shoot him and dump his body in the ocean. Because we said so.

And it’s still ok to use predator drones to blow up anyone we label a “terrorist,” American or otherwise, anywhere in the world. If not drones, then hit squads. It’s in the law now- not that any change was really necessary. Welcome to the Brave New World.

      USA! USA!

      • jinbaltimore March 23, 2012 at 2:17 pm #

not only is it o.k. to use drones to blow up any “labeled terrorists,” but it is also o.k. to accidentally hit the innocent too!
