But comparing Maher’s “c” word attack on Sarah Palin to what Rush Limbaugh said about Sarah Fluke, he’s having none of it.
To compare that to Rush is ridiculous – he went after a
civilian about very specific behavior, that was a lie, speaking for a party that has systematically gone after women’s rights all year, on the public airwaves. I used a rude word about a public figure who gives as good as she gets, who’s called people “terrorist” and “unAmerican.” Sarah Barracuda. The First Amendment was specifically designed for citizens to insult politicians. Libel laws were written to protect law students speaking out on political issues from getting called whores by Oxycontin addicts.
Bill Maher hasn’t had this much free press since “Politically Incorrect” was kicked off of ABC after his 9/11 comments.
Couple this with “Game Change” and it’s been a banner week for HBO.
Bill Maher is awful. I find him much more offensive. He not only attacks religion he also attacks people who follow these religions. To say that Maher only uses his obscene language to describe politicians is a bold lie and a pathetic attempt at spin. I have known that Republicans hold their own to higher standards than liberals do. It is nice to see that liberals also hold Republicans to higher standards as they do their own.

So how exactly does a fever dream like drift into the he’s not nice to superstitious people or organized stupidity have anything to do with Maher’s use of the C word regarding the Grizzeled Momma and the i ridiculous attempt to equate it with limpwithnoballs and his misogynistic, hate filled, slanderous three day rant?

That’s a question that occurred to me, also. It doesn’t seem to square with what he said earlier about how we should accept that apology or it would make us look silly. Limbaugh targeted someone with much less power than he has, and by “targeting”, I mean he lied about her for several days. Maher’s comments about Palin, while certainly not off the cuff, were designed to make a point about how one’s ability to express oneself is often constrained by things beyond one’s control. Plus, they were meant to get a cheap laugh. You can’t understand that, and not be able to understand that there’s a reason why Limbaugh wasn’t contrite enough to suit many of us.

DING! DING!! DING!!! So let me see if I understand what BM is trying to say. What Bill Misogynist did is not as bad as what Rush Limbully did, but regardless, it is OK for them both to do what they did so we should all get over it?
This statement of Maher’s has been playing over and over in my mind: “I’m a pottymouth, not a misogynist.”
Maybe it’s just me, but I think Bill is either in denial or doesn’t know what misogyny is.
His explanation is that he was just doing some “rude” name-calling back to the very public figure who made some not-so nice inflammatory statements that he did not like.
For me, the C word to women is what the N word is to black people. If what Bill says is accepted as a valid point of view, could the theory be floated that it is possible for a comedian to get a “pass” on calling a black politician who makes inflammatory statements the N word and then claim, “I am a potty mouth, not a racist?”
See, I believe that comedy is the final wall to be torn down when we are talking about true oppression. IMHO, as long as sexist slurs are considered acceptable joking, misogyny will live on and never go away. But, that’s just me.
