Worst of all, there is no clear end in sight for what has become, in the eyes of many Republicans, a joyless and prolonged nomination fight. Even Romney victories in Michigan and Arizona, the two states voting Tuesday, have little chance of forcing his aggrieved opponents out of the race. With a vast personal fortune at his disposal, there’s no prospect of Romney being shunted aside by his foes. – Politico
It’s not the “knife fight” Republicans should worry about, as Politico’s Maggie Haberman and Alexander Burns describe it. Obama and Clinton had the mother of all battles in 2008, but Democrats were exalted at the end. The problem for Republicans is the people throwing the knives.
There isn’t one GOP candidate who measures up to Obama or the challenge Hillary Clinton posed, with their battle one of political muscle, talent and intelligence, a race to the top of the idea pyramid.
Beyond Newt Gingrich’s 1% “infanticide” insults, Ron Paul’s foreign policy stink bomb, as Republicans see it, you’ve got Rick Santorum using the words “throw up” about John F. Kennedy’s seminal speech on religion and the presidency, while Mitt Romney is so discombobulated from turning himself inside out he’s forgotten he’s already lit his hair on fire for a base who will only support him if the alternative is a second Obama term.
As the finale of Michigan and Arizona contests arrive, Mitt Romney, even if he wins Michigan, is in a far worse position to beat Obama in November. That’s the real problem for Republicans, for which there isn’t a solution that doesn’t compound their problems.

Its Mitts pants that are on fire! He is slamming Santo fro robocallspushing demsto mess in the gop primary. Oh like Mitt said he did in 92 in MA dem primary! If its close Santo wins- heck this is MI. Mitt should be ahead 40 pts here. Since the GOP primary landed here the Obama camp isnt as nervous about MI as a swing state- bc O is now up 15 pts there.
Not to get off track but here is a hold the presses story from a most unlikely FOX news pundit Juan Williams. A must read.

Now regarding Mittens and Santo, I would be very careful in hoping for a Santo nomination win. It could happen despite how much of a whack job he is. He has the ability to talk to the average, everyday, white blue collar worker. He blew it with black folks a while back. Not to mention he is rallying the Christian conservatives and TP’ers. And you have to remember these people VOTE, volunteer, and give money. I would prefer Santo doing just what he is doing unlike so many Repuglicans who talked jobs, jobs, jobs, but have been on a mission do destroy womens rights, union collective bargaining, federal jobs, and protecting the banksters. At least you know he’s a wolf among the sheep. Democratic arrogance cost us in 2010, because the idiots really did not think they could lose the house until it was too late. Coming from the military I always have a best case scenario but work from the worst case scenario therefore I am ready for whatever comes. Again the 6 P’s. Proper Planning Prevents, Piss Poor Performance. Gotta go Take care everyone
How nice for Obama / Biden and the Dem Electeds in general, that the GOP continues providing so much cover for the continued “Rightward” movement of the “Left.”
Obama is at best a moderate conservative….he never was a liberal, no matter what his handlers claimed. What is happening with the GOP is they have painted themselves into a corner, republican candidates are forced to go hard right, because Obama will run as a moderate Republican, in the general election.
Voters for 2012…will have a choice between right wing and moderate conservatism.
I could see Grand Rapids ( Calvinist ) going for Santorum , as well as Macomb country ( Mt. Clemens ) . Up around those parts you have good old boys driving around with shotguns in their pick up trucks. When you get down to the suburbs surrounding Detroit it’s another story. Most of those people made their money in or connected to the auto industry and for them there would seem to be no choice at all. Romney keeps yacking about the benefits of a structured bankruptcy but fails to take into consideration the lack of private funding to support it. That’s why the government had to step in, their the only ones who had the money. Santorum calls himself blue collar but he didn’t support the bailout either. If it were me I just might stay home.
