A Palestinian Republican? Check.
A question about the candidate’s wives, none of whom actually work, which is a much different circumstance than 99% of the families in this country.
The words “manufacturing” and “blue collar” weren’t uttered until Rick Santorum said them at the end of the debate.
Mitt Romney has a new debate coach and it showed. He had game. From the New York Times:
Mitt Romney, facing his greatest challenge of the campaign so far, relentlessly pressed Newt Gingrich on Thursday night in their final debate before the Florida primary, seeking to regain the offensive against an insurgent candidacy that is unexpectedly threatening to upend his once seemingly indomitable front-runner’s status.
On immigration, on personal finances and, even, on Mr. Gingrich’s proposal for lunar colonies, Mr. Romney gave Mr. Gingrich no quarter, adding prime-time voice to his campaign’s all-out assault on Mr. Gingrich that is now running morning, noon and night here.
The most important thing he did was prove to voters he could stand and fight, but also make the case for himself and defend his biography without sounding apologetic. There was more alpha aggressiveness to Romney. His answer on his wealth and Swiss bank account was the best possible. He does, however, need to work on his Romneycare answers, because Rick Santorum took him out on the mandate. The Jacksonville audience liked Romney and it was his best debate in weeks.
Newt Gingrich is over. As the video at the top teases, he intends to keep going and make Romney bleed, but it’s going to increase the attacks on him. Gingrich seems to have one tactic and that’s punch the media. But he just wasn’t in it at any time tonight.
Ron Paul provided the comic relief, but also clarity at times. He didn’t annoy Republicans because there were few foreign policy questions.
Rick Santorum had a stellar debate, but I can’t consider this guy seriously, because he’d lose 70% of the independent vote due to his belligerent intolerance. Without his backward bigotry, he’d likely be in this race in a serious way. His 93 year-old mother was a huge hit and offered a wonderful moment.
Oh, and Newt tried to pull his media attack stunt on CNN’s Blitzer and Wolf bit back.

If Romney had said to me, “ There are 11 million Americans who want the jobs that 11 million illegal immigrant’s have, “ I would have said , “ Name one! ”
Is it possible that Gingrich is manic / depressive or bi – polar. He seems to have these abrupt changes in personality , energy , attentiveness , speech and demeanor.
Oh, snap!
I don’t know, fangio, but he’s certainly got something not quite right about him.
Armchair psychology: Gingrich is Axis II/histrionic…
Characteristics (Axis II/histrionic)
People with this disorder are usually able to function at a high level and can be successful socially and professionally. People with histrionic personality disorder usually have good social skills, but they tend to use these skills to manipulate other people and become the center of attention.[1] Furthermore, histrionic personality disorder may affect a person’s social or romantic relationships or their ability to cope with losses or failures. They may seek treatment for depression when romantic relationships end, although this is by no means a feature exclusive to this disorder.
They often fail to see their own personal situation realistically, instead tending to dramatize and exaggerate their difficulties. They may go through frequent job changes, as they become easily bored and have trouble dealing with frustration. Because they tend to crave novelty and excitement, they may place themselves in risky situations. All of these factors may lead to greater risk of developing depression.
Additional symptoms may include:
Meh Wonk, I think I’ll just stick with “sleazy, drama queen asshole” as my final answer.
Hey Wonk
I have already done my armchair diagnosis. Who knows what Newt’s problems are but he does not seem to be in control of the ups and downs.
“Mitt Romney has a new debate coach and it showed. He had game.” –Taylor
Ayup. It did show.
Tonight Mittens proved… he has more of a functioning heart than Dick Cheney’s LVAD.
Which isn’t saying much.
But, it’s still something compared to the rest of the GOP clowns.
Hey Wonk. Yep, it’s a wretched field, but he’s the best they’ve got.
snatorum took it to mitt on the mandate. newt flopped. mitt did well but boy i can see some big probs for him going forward into a general. big. from immigration to his quips on welath and money is just bad in age occupy.
His quips on “don’t hate me for my success” made me think he and the evangelicals should just bury the hatchet and convert to Scientology already.
I agree, Newt didn’t do well, but Romney has some major flaws and there showing in every debate. His has got to come up with a better answer when it comes to Romneycare. I still wonder where the Tea Party vote will go to, because they are not fans of Mitt Romney at all, as it showed in South Carolina. Its going to be interesting how Romney pulls the party back together, because right now, its seems like a civil war brewing.
They will most likely vote for anyone but Obama.
Note who Mitt mentioned re: Latinos for cabinet. Gov Susanna Martinez- R-NM. This is the most popular guv in america froma swing state etc.. I can see Mitt picking her for veep. Obama was on nightline and i thought he was better than in his SOTU for sure – after watching GOP debate uc an see whoever is their nom they got loads of work against Obama.
Taylor, did you know that you and Michael Savage think the same way about Newt?
Newt is the great unifier, cjoblak!
Taylor is right about Newt being a great unifier.
I don’t follow Savage, but I do visit Larry Johnson’s blog, No Quarter. I found that site during the 2008 election, along with Taylor. Both sites were havens for anyone who supported Hillary over Obama. You were allowed to push back at the Obamabots and Larry, like Taylor, understood Obama’s liabilities well.
The difference is the other site leaned more to the right (not me), and many of the posters hated Hillary for supporting Barack. Taylor, on the other hand, followed Hillary’s lead and supported then candidate Barack Obama.
I took a break from both Taylor’s blog and Larry’s during the run-up to and after the 2008 election because I couldn’t get behind Obama. Also, I still had a great deal of respect for Hillary and I didn’t feel as if I fit at either blog and I didn’t have much tolerance for a lot of what was being posted at either place.
Recently, I started following Larry’s blog again, just to get his opinion on the Republican candidates. Although he comes at it from a different perspective, so far, he and Taylor have expressed very similar opinions on all of them. Larry is no fan of Newt. In fact, yesterday, he called Newt a moron.
To me, when people across the spectrum of political philosophies and ideologies express similar negative assessments of a candidate, and those assessments agree with mine, it confirms what I already know: Newt is bad news.
P.S. Although his debate performance last night was far from perfect, I was glad the Romney took it to Newt. He went after Newt and brought the fight back from between Newt and the moderator to Newt and the other candidates which is where it should be. Newt’s faux outrage at the questions is already wearing thin and I am glad the Wolf Blitzer didn’t let him get away with it.
P.P.S. Are there really that people who want to live on the Moon? ROTFLMAO!!!
LOL
