CNN: Romney ‘Shellacks’ Gingrich in Florida

Update: Introduced by Ann Romney, who is the best thing in the campaign, Mitt Romney finally decided to make a speech talking to the conservative base. It was exactly what he needed to do and it was good for him. Unfortunately, he couldn’t resist using the word “appease,” as well as a couple of other tone deaf words. Romney talked directly to the camera and made his first attempt to bring people on board. He also made the point to say that Republicans will be united in the fall.

Update 2: Newt Gingrich was the definition of a classless sore loser. He squealed against the establishment “in both parties.” Gingrich showed the depth and breadth of his grandiosity, especially after such a crushing defeat. It would have been surreal, but this man is bone-deep angry and he obviously intends to burn the Republican Party down around him if he doesn’t prevail.

Update 3: Ron Paul shows how it’s done, opening with a grace note to the winner Mitt Romney. He said he congratulated Romney, then told him he’d see him in the caucus states. The crowd around him is positively raucous. It’s impossible not to appreciate Ron Paul’s candidacy.

Update 4: Earlier in the evening Rick Santorum spoke from Nevada. He’s clearly running for the vice presidency.

_____original post below_____

“Mitt Romney is winning where the people live,” is how CNN’s John King described it.

Romney and Gingrich split the Tea Party 40% to 38% in Florida.

Gingrich won only by 3 points with evangelicals; among non-evangelicals Romney “shellacked,” John King’s words, Gingrich.

Gingrich is fleeing to Nevada.

They’ll meet Ron Paul in that state, with Jon Ralston saying he’s more organized than before, but where Mitt Romney has home court advantage, even if it is a caucus state.

The Republican Party in Nevada is, well… let’s just say weak.

I’m not surprised Romney won, of course, but it is interesting how close the “evangelical” vote turned out.

Right on Joyce, putting “evangelical” in quotes. I really wonder who these people are who would vote for Newt.

Hypocrites. That’s who. Values to them means abortion and the gays. Everything else is trivial. Feed the poor? Nah. Teach immigrants to read? Nah. Save the lives of abandoned animals? Nah. Fight for clean air and water? Nah.

Fucking hypocrites. The lot of them.

      I’m not surprised, Joyce.

Mitt Romney’s problems is not his Mormonism, as I’ve already written. It’s his Mittness. He began working on that a bit tonight, with an assist from Ann, which we’ll see a lot.

Romney’s ad advantage over Gingrich was 12,700/210. Money matters.

    Good times!

Newt is one of those ‘fevered egos’ Bill Hicks talked about.  46 states to go!

Behold, the power of cheese. Carpet bombing [with negative ads] does work. This was payback for SC. Romney’s Super Pac did not air one single positive ad. Talk about focus. His learning curve is impressive that he has no natural base in Florida. If he can get his Hispanic voters numbers up to George Bush’s 44%, November will be a toss up.

Romney’s victory speech, courtesy of Daily Kos,  deconstructed from tweets during his  speech:

‘Obama is making America “the worst of what Europe has become”  says the guy who had his money in Swiss banks. And he really didn’t have a  problem with Europe when he hid there during the Vietnam War’.

‘To be  fair, Mitt Romney and MItt Romney have very different visions of  America’.

‘Father of Obamacare promising to repeal Obamacare’

‘A  teleprompter was set up earlier tonight for Mitt Romney’s acceptance  speech’

‘Mitts new math, He promised to balance the budget without  cutting defense or raising taxes, and he attacked Obama for cutting  Medicare’?

‘Do androids dream of electronic fund transfers to the Cayman  Islands’?

‘If Romney’s unfavorables get any lower he’ll pick Dick Cheney  as his running mate for a little likeability’

While you were watching CNN, I was watching Tweety rewrite history.  Going on and on about how negative Romney’s advertising has been and get this…..how the fight between Obama and Hillary had been  on the issues  with no negative character assignations! The man is just incredible, he participated. Why anyone would read his romantic version of JFK I don’t know but apparently people are buying the book.

On the other hand the Rev had a couple of Gingrich operatives squirming and speechless when calling out all the racial code words Newt is throwing out there. Then Rachael kind of blew it by chiming in and saying that Newt’s criticism of Obama’s singing was racist, when he could have just as easily been talking about Bill Clinton playing the sax. Stupid stuff like that enabled the formerly speechless operative to say MSNBC has got to get off  this calling everything racist kick.
