The 2020 Wild Card: What if Trump is Out?
(screen capture: Another book about Trumpworld)

Vice President Joe Biden’s younger brother unloaded Monday on Hillary Clinton’s failed 2016 campaign — saying his sibling would have won Pennsylvania, would have campaigned aggressively in Michigan and would not have insulted voters as “deplorables.” [New York Post]

WHAT IF an event occurs in 2019 to take Donald J. Trump out of the 2020 presidential race. Or neuters him effectively to inspire challengers.

Imagine former governor and U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley as the GOP nominee.

Is former Vice President Joe Biden the best Democratic candidate against any Republican?

As for Senator Elizabeth Warren, the tape of her answering the abortion question in Iowa recently shows a candidate on her game. She loves the POTUS show. It’s early to tell, but no one should write her off.

Senator Bernie Sanders doesn’t have a prayer. His arrogance and nonchalance about sexual harassment have exposed his inability to run his own campaign. The enemies he’s made inside the Democratic Party were unforced errors.

Oddly, Alexandria Ocasio Cortez helps Biden’s case. Her suggestion about taxing marginal rates at 70% above $10 million dollars is cracked. After winning one election, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez made a factual error on “60 Minutes,” then didn’t have the humility to admit she got one of her facts wrong. She cleaned it up in a tweet.

It reminded me of one of Hillary Clinton‘s fatal flaws: She wanted her privacy more than the presidency, as her private server debacle proved.

It reminded me of Sheryl Sandberg‘s ad nauseam lies.

It’s no crime to screw up but it’s awful when women act like men when we do.

Some progressive activists are ready to burn Biden.

A recent Iowa poll shows him way ahead of everyone, with Warren in fourth, behind Beto O’Rourke, with Sanders in second.

Senators Cory Booker and Kamala Harris are talking to Wall Street backers to test their reaction.

It’s early.

The accidental occupant of the White House may make it through 2019 but there is no guarantee.

It’s the wild card for 2020 and Democrats ignore this possibility at their peril.
