Child Abuse Trauma at the Border

“In my opinion, it is child abuse to separate children from their parents unless it’s necessary to save a human life…” – Judge Napolitano

THERE WAS no point in writing anything about the human rights violations on the U.S. southern border unless there were politicians ready to thrown down to make the Trump administration pay for what they have orchestrated.

Democratic law” is one more lie.

Governor Charlie Baker of Massachusetts has refused to send National Guard troops.

Governor Charlie Baker is canceling the deployment of Massachusetts National Guard troops to the border in light of recent reports about the Trump Administration’s practice of separating immigrant children from families.

“Governor Baker directed the National Guard not to send any assets or personnel to the Southwest border today because the federal government’s current actions are resulting in the inhumane treatment of children,” said Baker communications director Lizzy Guyton in a statement sent to WGBH News.

Senator Kamala Harris called for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen.

Trump has plotted some reprehensible moves since coming to office. Some have been stupid. The internment of children has left children at risk to child abuse.

Now he gets to sit back and watch Attorney General Sessions perform as he promised. His actions to criminalize childhood if you’re not white is why Trump chose him.

Perhaps POTUS is happier today.

Build the backlash and wait for it to land on the White House Lawn.

UPDATE [6.20.18]: This AP story broke last night. It was the last move for Republican strategist Steve Schmidt, who decided he couldn’t take it anymore. Schmidt has renounced the Republican Party and stated he will vote Democratic. He has become a modern-day hero.

Trump administration officials have been sending babies and other young children forcibly separated from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border to at least three “tender age” shelters in South Texas, The Associated Press has learned. Lawyers and medical providers who have visited the Rio Grande Valley shelters described play rooms of crying preschool-age children in crisis. The government also plans to open a fourth shelter to house hundreds of young migrant children in Houston, where city leaders denounced the move Tuesday. [Associated Press]
