Our democracy is in serious danger. President Trump is either totally compromised by the Russians or is a towering fool, or both, but either way he has shown himself unwilling or unable to defend America against a Russian campaign to divide and undermine our democracy. – Thomas Friedman [New York Times]
THE RUSSIANS infiltrated our country and our democratic electoral system. Only Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team came to America’s defense.
The unstable man in the White House did nothing.
Assistant Attorney General Rod Rosenstein seemed to know as he announced the indictment against 13 Russians — a must read — that his job has never been more secure.
It was a story we’ve waited to hear told. A part of the saga that began when the son of a privileged politician decided to conspire with Russians against a U.S. citizen who’d been elected to represent one of the two major parties in the United States in an election for nothing less than the American presidency.
The Russians did it.
…and the saddest part is that Senator Mitch McConnell and Speaker Paul Ryan helped them through pressure against Barack Obama, who was foolish enough to believe America was safe.
Yes, it was the Russians. Not the Chinese… and certainly not a 400-pound man… or the unstable man in the White House sitting in his bedroom eating cheeseburgers and watching Fox.
But no matter what was uncovered about what the Russians could be doing there was silence from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
There was a whiff of danger that floated above the clouds when the man occupying the presidency ignored the U.S. intelligence agencies.
The indictment announced through Robert Mueller’s office is foreshadowing of what is to come.
The aged man in the White House tweeted while “The ORGANIZATION employed hundreds of individuals for its online operations, ranging from creators of fictitious personas to technical and administrative support…”
Nothing could convince the current occupant of the White House that… “The ORGANIZATION sought, in part, to conduct what it called “information warfare against the United States of America…”
Republicans in Congress remained mute as our country was attacked by Russians in our midst.
“For example, on or about May 29, 2016, Defendants and their co-conspirators, through an ORGANIZATION-controlled social media account, arranged for a real U.S. person to stand in front of the White House in the District of Columbia under false pretenses to hold a sign that read ‘Happy 55th Birthday Dear Boss. … is a leader here and our boss…our founder.’ PRIGOZHIN’s Russians passport identifies his date of birth ad June 1, 1961.”
The weekend after this information was released the only thing the aged man in the White House could do was attack Robert Mueller and the investigators who have presumed the role of defending our nation because of Donald J. Trump’s dereliction of duty.
President Eisenhower would be ashamed of such a man holding the highest office in America.
Ronald Reagan Republicans (and Democrats) might call it un-American.
Robert Mueller informed us that “by 2016, Defendants and their co-conspirators used their fictitious online personas to interfere with the 2016 U.S. presidential election. They engaged in operations primarily intended to communicate derogatory information about Hillary Clinton, to denigrate other candidates such as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, and to support Bernie Sanders and then-candidate Donald Trump.”
The president doesn’t care who attacked our country.
Not far outside the Washington, D.C. Beltway, “Lock Her Up” and “Hillary for Prison” yard signs could be seen in the Maryland countryside. They could be purchased on Amazon. At the time, I tweeted out one of those signs in a state where I could not find any “Hillary for President” signs.
Russians created hashtags, which are mentioned in the indictment against the 13 Russians who infiltrated our country to cause chaos and mistrust in our electoral process.
The message from Robert Mueller in the indictment is that his investigators rooted out persons down to who paid them and for what action.
“On or about November 3, 2016, Defendants and their co-conspirators purchased an advertisement to promote a post on the ORGANIZATION-controlled Instagram account “Blacktivist” that read in part… Choose peace and vote for Jill Stein. Trust me, it’s not a wasted vote…'”
The “speaking indictment” tells a tale. A story Tom Clancy could have written, except for the un-American president who sits in the White House doing nothing as our enemies in Russia laugh at his arrogance, his ignorance, and cheer at how easy Donald J. Trump was duped.
A continent away, foreign policy watchers in Munich were not distracted.
McMaster, the U.S. National Security Adviser, told the conference the surprise FBI indictments provided “incontrovertible” evidence of Russia’s actions. [Reuters]
Inside the White House, however, it was all about one aged man’s tired ego, not the country he is supposed to protect.
On this Presidents’ Day, the only protector of our democratic republic we have is Robert Mueller and his investigative team. A group of intrepid American patriots who defend our country from enemies, foreign and domestic, while the man in the White House does nothing.
The continued assertion by members of the Trump administration that the Intel Community concluded the Russians’ election interference had no impact is false. No matter how many times they say it. https://t.co/2Qw2YK7LPP https://t.co/y1R81pQjRD
