Trump, standing in front of a painting of President Andrew Jackson, who signed the Indian Removal Act, thanked the code talkers on Monday for their contributions to World War II and acknowledged that Native Americans “were here long before any of us were here — although we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas.” [Politico]
THE AMERICAN PRESIDENT isn’t well.
Trump’s treatment of the United States Marine Code Talkers during an honor ceremony revealed the depth of his mental challenges. When he thinks of Native Americans, his only reference is Senator Elizabeth Warren, a woman and potential adversary in 2020. Trump hopes to brand her through a racial slur.
Our president thinks in terms of white prowess. This is not news. But his constant white man’s talk represents a dead era. A wasteland of historic progress to him because Trump never felt it. How else could a man stand and wave his tax cut debacle in the face of middle class voters who elected him?
But the language Trump used during the Code Talker ceremony was not that of a fully functioning man. Has his insomnia caught up with him? We’re accustomed to his emotional immaturity but the results of his thought processes during public ceremonies has become a black hole.
Lurching dialogue presented the American president as unwell.
Trump has floated the notion the “Access Hollywood” tape may not be authentic. He said on it that he can “grab her by the pussy” because women will let a star do anything. He apologized for it when the tape surfaced. He believes he can throw doubt on history because he is president.
Grandpa Trump has gotten worse since the 2016 campaign.
The White House staff who serves him is a disgrace.
In front of Andrew Jackson portrait, Trump says to Navajo guests in Oval Office that “we have a representative in Congress who they say was here a long time ago. They call her Pocahontas."
