North Korea has successfully produced a miniaturized nuclear warhead that can fit inside its missiles, crossing a key threshold on the path to becoming a full-fledged nuclear power, U.S. intelligence officials have concluded in a confidential assessment. [Washington Post]
AFTER THE United Nations slammed North Korea with more sanctions there was a lot of back-slapping. With the news that the regime has miniaturized a nuclear warhead that can potentially hit the continental United States, there will be a lot of head-smacking.
George W. Bush proved to the North Korean leadership that having nuclear weapons is a security blanket against “shock and awe” invasionary forces.
It’s up to Donald J. Trump and his esteemed team of generals to figure out how to play this one.
Containment and freezes won’t cut it anymore.
There are no good options, as everyone always says.
One bad option is to leave Kim Jong-un with a growing nuclear force.
Every president is made during a crisis.
Is Trump up to it?
UPDATE: POTUS gave a statement on camera during the 3:00 p.m. hour. It was a doozy.
North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States. They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen. He has been very threatening, beyond a normal statement. …as I say, they will be met with fire, fury, and frankly, power.” – President Donald Trump (via MSNBC video)
