[Huma Abedin’s] parents, Syed Zainul Abedin, born in India, and Saleha Mahmood Abedin, born in Pakistan, were academics. When Abedin was two, they moved from Kalamazoo, Michigan, where she’d been born, to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, to teach. (Her father also started a notable nonprofit, the Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs.) At British international schools, she grew up surrounded by other multinational students. [VOGUE Magazine]
IF AT first your attacks on Hillary Clinton don’t stick, try, try again on a different target.
Tag-teaming on Huma Abedin, two articles by the New York Post appeared over the weekend, backed with gusto by Breitbart, whose chief message man is now at the top of the Trump campaign.
Smelling clickbait, the Daily Mail has joined in.
However, soon after that “historic and transformational” 1995 event, as Clinton recently described it, her top aide Huma Abedin published articles in a Saudi journal taking Clinton’s feminist platform apart, piece by piece. At the time, Abedin was assistant editor of the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs working under her mother, who remains editor-in-chief. She was also working in the White House as an intern for then-first lady Clinton.
[…] In a separate January 1996 article, Abedin’s mother — who was the Muslim World League’s delegate to the UN conference — wrote that Clinton and other speakers were advancing a “very aggressive and radically feminist” agenda that was un-Islamic and wrong because it focused on empowering women.
The above is followed by several more paragraphs about Abedin’s mother, Saleha Mahmood Abedin, and her writing associated with a non-profit started by her father, Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs, which the Post and Breitbart work mightily to wrap around her daughter.
I can’t wait for the article, HUMA MARRIED A JEW!, from these clowns.
But the Post’s real question is
If fighting for women’s rights is one of Clinton’s greatest achievements, why has she retained as her closest adviser a woman who gave voice to harsh Islamist critiques of her Beijing platform?
You cannot blame the daughter for her parents’ beliefs, let alone their writings. What you can attribute to the parents is how their child turned out, the choices she has made and where she has landed.
The sticky, poisonous spider web that the New York Post is spinning and Breitbart is churning out is nothing new for the right.
Torturing facts by claiming that Saleha Mahmood Abedin, Huma’s mother, has poisoned her daughter’s mind and that she was responsible for her mother’s words and beliefs are laying the groundwork for a battle cry that we heard often about President Barack Obama, a Christian born in Hawaii.
Donald Trump was one of the original birthers.
A Muslim in the White House, oh my, and she’s got roots in the Middle East.
Huma Abedin was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, then moved to Saudi Arabia. Her experience and education are multicultural.
Oh, and she’s a devout Muslim.
Need I say more?
