Trump Outsmarts Everyone, Christie Gets Revenge

AFTER A debate that showed Marco Rubio actually has some game, Donald Trump didn’t waste any time stepping on the Florida senator like a bug.

Governor Chris Christie‘s endorsement came like a bolt out of the blue, sending political writers everywhere scrambling for metaphors to describe a move by Trump that is remarkable on many levels, not the least of which is that he managed to surprise everyone.

Mr. Christie, noting he has been friends with Mr. Trump for a decade, said that he was “proud to be here to endorse Donald Trump.” Mr. Trump “will do exactly what needs to be done to make America a leader around the world again,” he said. – Maggie Haberman [New York Times]

Steve Kornacki of MSNBC, who’s covered Chris Christie since 2002, has been reporting for a while that Rubio’s super PAC dumped a lot of negative material into New Hampshire right as Christie was gaining traction basically stopping his momentum. It forced Christie out of the race. Endorsing Trump was a prime opportunity to remain relevant, as well as taste some sweet revenge.

But what it does for Donald Trump is huge. It gives him his very first big name establishment Republican on his side, someone who ran the governor’s association for the GOP, with a reach that’s far and wide.

You have to hand it to Donald Trump, he just keeps coming.
