[Megyn Kelly] seemed to surrender to the clan’s pious will: Kelly went disappointingly Barbara Walters-ish on us. […] Jim Bob and Michelle thanked Kelly “for telling our story,” a phrase no tough interviewer wants to hear since it implies a certain partiality, and Kelly must have winced at that. [TIME]

THREE MINUTES into the Duggar interview, Megyn Kelly shows her bias by stressing the bombshell news of Josh Duggar’s crimes, which came through “an illegally released police report.” However, Kelly didn’t do any homework, which was easy for someone of her prowess. A call to Springdale City Attorney Ernest Cate was all it would have taken for Kelly to find out that when the police report was filed Josh Duggar was 18 years old, which compelled the police to release the report under FOIA requests.

After the Kelly interview, the Springdale Police responded to the Duggars hyping privacy rights and shamelessly acting like victims, at the expense of ignoring FOIA requests.

“On 5/20/15, in full compliance with Arkansas Law, the Springdale Police Department responded to a records request under the Arkansas Freedom of Information Act. The requested record was not sealed or expunged, and at the time the report was filed, the person listed in the report was an adult. Any names of minors included in the report, as well as pronouns, were redacted from the report by the Springdale Police Department in compliance with Arkansas law prior to release.” [NWA]

Before Kelly even asks the Duggars a question, she forwards the same lies that Huckabee used to her audience, saying the Duggars sent their son Josh to “a kind of rehab program,” something that In Touch Weekly has already proved false.

Asked about the training center that Jim Bob said Josh was sent to, Michelle told police, according to the report, “it was not really a training center. Det. [Darrell] Hignite asked if the guy [redacted, Josh] talked to was a certified counselor. She said no. She said it was a guy they know in Little Rock that is remodeling a building. Det. Hignite asked if the guy was more of a mentor. She said “kind of.”

In a new report from In Touch Weekly, they detail all the obfuscation in the Megyn Kelly interview by the Duggars, calling their actions a “cover up.”

The most outlandish reaction came from Sarah Palin, who couldn’t wait to get into the action. A publicity stunt, one can only assume. On Facebook, an all caps rants started it off. Huffington Post reporting

Lena Dunham excerpt on what actually happened that day.

“One day, as I sat in our driveway in Long Island playing with blocks and buckets, my curiosity got the best of me. Grace was sitting up, babbling and smiling, and I leaned down between her legs and carefully spread open her vagina. She didn’t resist and when I saw what was inside I shrieked.”

“My mother came running. ‘Mama, Mama! Grace has something in there!'”

“My mother didn’t bother asking why I had opened Grace’s vagina. This was within the spectrum of things I did. She just on her knees and looked for herself. It quickly became apparent that Grace had stuffed six or seven pebbles in there. My mother removed them patiently while Grace cackled, thrilled that her prank had been a success.”

Sarah Palin dragging Lena Dunham into this is illustrative of just how far the right will go to exonerate a Christian pedophile, which reveals why Megyn Kelly was under pressure to sympathize with her subjects. It’s also why she blew the Duggar interview badly. The Duggar parents lied to the police, tried to keep the crime covered, while dragging their daughters, who are victims, out into public and making them deny they were molested to protect their family brand. If Kelly would have given an interview she’s known for she would have been vilified across FNC’s base audience.

Megyn Kelly is a talented journalist. She should have made the Duggars come to New York, but because she worked for Fox News Channel she couldn’t. She surrendered to the Duggars by traveling to Arkansas, and did a disservice to the truth, though her audience, including the right and the contingent Sarah Palin represents, got exactly what they usually do, a very perverted version of the truth.

The days of Mike Wallace are gone (even mentioning his name will send many to Google).

Oh, and one more thing. Megyn Kelly will air an interview tonight with the Duggar daughters, Jessa and Jill, who were molested. So it’s obvious to anyone paying attention that the unspoken agreement for protecting empathizing with Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar in their interview, was that Kelly got access to their girls.
