“The science is clear: The earth is round, the sky is blue, and #vaccineswork,” Clinton wrote on Twitter. “Let’s protect all our kids. #GrandmothersKnowBest.” [Bloomberg Politics]
LEAVE THE public policy to women, particularly those in the Democratic Party, because Republicans as a group don’t know what they’re talking about and evidently GOP men have problems sorting these things out. Hillary Clinton on vaccines said it bluntly, stating what everyone knows.
Vox.com also reminded people of what candidate Barack Obama once uttered, which sounds pretty dumb right now.
President Barack Obama and his administration have been urging parents to ensure their children are vaccinated in light of the measles outbreak. The episode has also turned the spotlight back to his and Clinton’s comments on vaccines during their 2008 contest. At the time, Obama said that “the science right now is inconclusive, but we have to research it,” and Clinton answered a questionnaire by writing, “I am committed to make investments to find the causes of autism, including possible environmental causes like vaccines.”
To update, the Vox.com quote above has unleashed a fury of rebuttals, and they have updated their post with the video now uploaded of Obama’s statement. The fact remains that candidate Obama thought the research linking vaccines and autism was still “inconclusive,” when it was not.
“… “We’ve seen just a skyrocketing autism rate. Nobody knows exactly why. There are some people who are suspicious that it’s connected to vaccines and triggers, but (pointing to his right) this person included. The science right now is inconclusive, but we have to research it. Part of the reason I think it’s very important to research it is those vaccines are also preventing huge numbers of deaths among children and preventing debilitating illnesses like Polio. And so we can’t afford to junk our vaccine system. We’ve got to figure out why is it that this is happening so that we are starting to see a more normal, what was a normal, rate of autism. Because if we keep on seeing increases at the rate we’re seeing we’re never going to have enough money to provide all the special needs, special education funding that’s going to be necessary.” – Barack Obama [via Vox.com]
Dear GOP, from Hillary Clinton, this is what leadership looks like, boys.
