What are you serving up for Thanksgiving?

In a cruel echo of history, Obama is morphing into the president whose foreign policy he campaigned to overturn. Obama on Monday morning sacked his Pentagon secretary, Chuck Hagel, after huge midterm election losses in the sixth year of his presidency — just as Bush did in sacking Donald Rumsfeld after midterm losses in the sixth year of his presidency. – Dana Milbank

WE DON’T have a conventional Thanksgiving at our house. I’ve already cooked the turkey, which Mark is still devouring. The dressing I made this year, cognac and wine version, went over very big! The foundation is Ina Garten’s recipe, with my own flare added, including hand blender action at the end to make it smooth, as well as rich. To each their own.

We’re having gelato for dessert this year and cornish game hens for supper.

Of course there will be wine! Chianti and Cabernet, as well as champagne.

On that note, if you’re looking for a modestly priced champagne I recommend the Kirkland brand from Costco. No, I’m not kidding. The labeling is the biggest downside, because the flavor is wonderful, especially if you want bubbly and prefer champagne to sparkling white. It ranges from $19.99 to $24.99 for the rose.

Enjoy Thanksgiving.

Ignore your relatives and don’t take the politics personally. For Democrats with Republican relatives it’s going to be brutal.

Bon appétit!

…and since we’re on the cusp of Christmastime, I thought I’d share one of my very favorite films for the season.

No matter how you spend the holiday, steal some time to relax and let your mind take a break. We live in a great country. Life could be a lot worse, no matter your travails.
