“New York was next on their list of targets,” Bloomberg said of brothers Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Bloomberg said he received confirmation of the chilling second phase of their plot from the FBI. “The fact is, New York City remains a prime target for those who hate America and want to kill Americans.” [Fox News]
MAYOR BLOOMBERG embarrassed himself today by launching into a hypothetical and unnecessarily hyperbolic statement on what Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev might have done if one hadn’t been shot dead just days after the terrorist attack in Boston, while the other was close to death after being shot, found hiding in the back of a boat, and now is in custody.
The “list of targets” these two men compiled, which caused Mayor Bloomberg to make his statement, might as well have been titled “wish list,” before they were delivered to hell.
Bloomberg’s error went further, because by suggesting the Tsarnaevs could have come close to pulling off an attack in New York gives these two terrorists a legendary persona that doesn’t represent either of these two men.
The events of last week prove the Tsarnaevs weren’t anywhere close to the capabilities of hitting New York. The FBI were on them immediately, their faces plastered across media in quick order. The Boston Police Department didn’t come close to letting these two thugs out of the Boston area.
Evidently, Mayor Bloomberg missed the part where the Boston area was locked down, people at times not allowed to leave their homes.
Bloomberg is wrong in the way he posited the “list of targets” the Tsarnaevs put together, even if everyone knows that the U.S. remains a target of our enemies, much of it due to Obama’s drone policy, with New York City representing the most coveted target of terrorists.
There was, in fact, no reason at all for Bloomberg to hype that the Tsarnaevs were fantasizing about going to New York and planting bombs in Times Square. They didn’t have one chance in one million of pulling that off, which the events after the Boston Marathon terrorist attack conclusively prove.
What it they’d gotten out of Boston…
What if they’d been able to get into New York…
What if they…
Tamerlin Tsarnaev is dead.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was close to dead when he was captured.
These Tsarnaev brothers hitting New York City?
Mayor Bloomberg needs to quit going to movies like “Olympus Has Fallen,” a blockbuster Antoine Fuqua film that’s spectacular fun, but also requires the same suspension of disbelief that is needed to take what Bloomberg said today about the Tsarnaevs seriously.
Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said the brothers, Muslims from Dagestan, a breakaway republic in Russia, hatched their plot to attack Times Square while driving the streets of Cambridge last Thursday in a Mercedes SUV they had carjacked from a man who later escaped. Kelly called the New York plot “spontaneous,” and said they had six bombs with them in the car, some of which they hurled at police cars hours later when they were being pursued in a chase that culminated in Tamerlan Tsarnaev’s death.
