President Hugo Chávez Dies

chavez

President Hugo Chávez of Venezuela died Tuesday afternoon after a long battle with cancer, the government announced, leaving behind a bitterly divided nation in the grip of a political crisis that grew more acute as he languished for weeks, silent and out of sight in hospitals in Havana and Caracas. [New York Times]

THE CONSTITUTION of Venezuela calls for an election in 30 days. But according to reports that interpretation is up for discussion.

The country’s divisions are sure to spill out into the void left by the passing of Chávez.

Didn’t like the man but all the grave dancing going in the press today is unseemly!

Not one American in a hundred could coherently explain WHY he is supposed to be happy because Chavez is dead, of course- because we have merely been told by certain media outlets that Chavez is a Very Very Bad Man. Fox viewers and customers of Right Wing Radio have been told ad nauseum that Chavez is Teh Evil because he’s a Socialist And By The Way Obama Is Just Like Him,* with no other explanation, because the knuckle-draggers don’t need anything deeper than that.

*Yesterday afternoon I heard several of these “Obama is Chavez” rants all over my radio dial, and I couldn’t help suspect that the hosts and audience wish that Obama and Chavez had at least one more thing in common now. It was that bad.

say what you want…when American families were out of heating oil in this winter and several past the oil company parasites said FREEZE…he sent FREE heating oil for them. If I were a superstitionist I would say bless him.

You beat me to it- there are hundreds of thousands of elderly people, and poor people with children, who did not freeze to death over the last decade just because they could not provide a profit for the heating oil industry, thanks to the generosity of The Evil Anti-American Dictator of Venezuela. I just hope the program continues under Venezuela’s new leadership- and it probably will, unless that new leadership is the hand-picked stooge of the United States, “elected” by the CIA.

He was just another dictator with an army of thugs to intimidate his opponents. Caracas is his memorial; a once beautiful city that his policies transformed into a crime ridden slum.

Gee, a dictator not having any strong sucessor who might eclipse him, that has never happened before in history. Nor has the general chaos incurred by that same dictator finally joining the choir invisible ever happend either. (Snark Off.)

As for the celebratory mood of some people on the news of Chavez death, color me unsurprised. The man was a thorn in the side of many people, and happy to be so. No surprise that he is not missed at all by some.
