Joe Lieberman’s Political Obituary: American Enterprise Institute

lieberman

Former Sen. Joe Lieberman is joining the conservative think tank American Enterprise Institute, the organization announced Monday. [Politico]

THE MAN who once stood next to Al Gore as the Democratic vice presidential nominee is going where right-wingers go to spend out the rest of their years in irrelevancy.

It’s fitting and earned.

Amen… I *knew* you’d comment on this one!

Gore made three monumental mistakes…holding the Big Dawg at arms length….picking this schmuck as VP and trying to be cute with the recount. A HAT TRICK!!!

I didn’t think Lieberman was a mistake at the time at all, because his choice completely inoculated Gore on the *perceived* negativity inside Dem circles that Clinton was a liability, which was ridiculous. Choosing Lieberman, while utilizing Bill Clinton fully was perfect triangulation politics.

Looking back today, the decision to freeze out Bill Clinton seems so ridiculous it’s hard to get your head around it. I was writing online, doing radio on behalf of Gore (though not as a part of his campaign team), screaming bloody murder about Clinton being frozen out. The big rumor at the time was that it came from Tipper Gore, for the most part, though Mr. Gore’s a big boy & could have overruled it easily.

          No argument on the recount.

I and a couple of my friends were stunned when he picked Lieberman…we immediately agreed he probably just lost the election.
Even WITH this schmuck if he had embraced Clinton I think he would have pounded shrub so badly even the shenanigans played with the voting wouldn’t have been able to bring it close.
