Adam Lanza’s Guns and N.R.A.’s Promise of a “Meaningful Contribution”

Lanza, 20, carried “many high-capacity clips” for the lightweight military-style rifle, Lt. Paul Vance, a spokesman for the Connecticut State Police, told The Huffington Post in an email. [Huffington Post]

SINCE THERE have been many questions coming my way on the weapons Adam Lanza had access to, I thought it would be helpful to post the Washington Post graphic above, as well as the proof that high-capacity clips were used.

As I wrote about yesterday, President Obama is scheduled to announce today that V.P. Joe Biden is leading a task force to ascertain what gun legislation the Administration will back.

The N.R.A. promised in a statement on Tuesday a “meaningly contribution” to the national dialogue, which they are scheduled to announce on Friday. Their statement is below, which is absolutely meaningless without concrete action. But I look forward to hearing what they have to say, because nothing of significance can be done without them.

The National Rifle Association of America is made up of four million moms and dads, sons and daughters — and we were shocked, saddened and heartbroken by the news of the horrific and senseless murders in Newtown.

“Out of respect for the families, and as a matter of common decency, we have given time for mourning, prayer and a full investigation of the facts before commenting.

“The NRA is prepared to offer meaningful contributions to help make sure this never happens again.

“The NRA is planning to hold a major news conference in the Washington, DC area on Friday, December 21.

“Details will be released to the media at the appropriate time.”

Interesting POV from Democracy Now: “from New Town to Newtown“, about Australia’s seemingly successful effort to deal with mass shootings. There’s a transcript if you scroll past the advertisements and “Related” links.

Thanks for the info Taylor. Banning the high capacity clips might have saved some lives.

Patience – it takes a few days for the NRA to completely overhaul its messaging and marketing materials and to update and expand your payroll (whore or bribery) roster.
