Daniel Day Lewis Is Lincoln

THE FILM will be out on November 7th.

Mr. Lewis was first spied eating lunch in Richmond, VA., very much in character, which is his usual tactic when working on a film. Unlike most actors, Lewis takes fewer films and immerses himself in them when he does.

Steven Spielberg is producing, with more teasers on the movie slowly dripping out.

The movie has also taken a long time to get to the screen, although Spielberg made a relatively fast decision roughly a decade ago when he optioned the rights to historian Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book, Team of Rivals, about Lincoln and his combative cabinet, when she was still just researching it. The screenplay, adapted by Angels in America playwright Tony Kushner (husband of EW columnist Mark Harris), excerpts just a portion of that 2005 best-seller. []

Can’t wait. Last of the Mohicans is my favorite movie of ALL time.

I can never decide his greatest role so far, but I have to go with “Let There Be Blood.”

“Last of the Mohicans” was surprisingly good. I’m just glad movies like this still get made now and then- the studio must know it is unlikely to make money, but maybe it gets some critical praise and adds a bit to the nation’s history IQ. Nothing wrong with that. Not to mention, it’s been too long since we’ve seen DDL.
