Obama Calls Karzai,Expresses ‘Shock and Sadness’

Sixteen dead, including 9 children.

Imagine if the circumstances were reversed and this happened in America. Can you just hear Rush Limbaugh now?

Pres. Karzai is an untrustworthy man, so giving him any moral authority while our troops are dug in makes me shudder.

Obama has called Karzai and expressed “shock and sadness at the reported killing and wounding of Afghan civilians,” according to a White House readout of the call. Obama also extended “his condolences to the people of Afghanistan,” and made it clear that the Administration would get to the bottom of what happened and “hold fully accountable anyone responsible.”

The report from Al Jazeera:

Sixteen Afghan civilians including three women and nine children have been shot dead in their homes by a rogue US soldier in a pre-dawn rampage.

President Hamid Karzai condemned the slaughter on Sunday as “unforgivable” and furiously demanded an explanation from Washington.

“When Afghan people are killed deliberately by US forces this action is murder and terror and an unforgivable action,” Karzai said in statement.

The White House released the following statement:

Office of the Press Secretary

March 11, 2012

Statement by the President on Civilian Deaths in Afghanistan

I am deeply saddened by the reported killing and wounding of Afghan civilians. I offer my condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and to the people of Afghanistan, who have endured too much violence and suffering. This incident is tragic and shocking, and does not represent the exceptional character of our military and the respect that the United States has for the people of Afghanistan. I fully support Secretary Panetta’s and General Allen’s commitment to get the facts as quickly as possible and to hold accountable anyone responsible.

I wonder what Karzai thought when he was told Obama was on the phone, ” Oh! great, another apology. They treat my people like dogs and then he apologizes. ” It would be one thing if any of these Marines ( since they are almost always Marines ) payed a price for their brutality, but as we have seen in Iraq and Afghanistan, they rarely do. In Haditha, the real NCIS thought they had an iron clad case of revenge and premeditated murder. There was a court martial, there were guilty verdicts, and most of the perpetrator’s went free. Why? Because it didn’t matter what the judges said, the Marine commandant has the last word and he decided that what they did was just something that happens in a war zone. In other words, shit happens. Well shit doesn’t just happen, there’s always a reason, and the Iraqi’s and Afghans are not like ” shit for brains ” Americans; they have long memories. These long memories, along with all the other long memories of all the peoples around the world that we have crapped on over the years will eventually be the end of our ” empire ” . This is not to say that I do not have sympathy for the Marines; I do. This is not what they have historically been asked to do; they are not babysitters, nor are they infantry. They and other members of the armed forces have not in the past been asked to serve two, three and four tours, nor been forced to stay at their posts long after their tour was up. They too, have in some ways been treated like dogs, no matter how much we praise them.

Agree….although you’re wrong about the Jarheads not being infantry.

And not surprisingly the utter PIGS that infect talk radio are actually complaining that President Obama called Pres. Karzai to express horror and apologize.
