“I was disappointed to hear that Rick Santorum would rather have Barack Obama as president than a Republican.” – Romney campaign via Twitter
The media loves this framing for Mitt Romney, and Democrats are jubilant.
Republicans should be soul searching, because it’s one of the fullest and most complete humiliations of a potential presidential nominee that I’ve seen since Michael Dukakis in a tank.  John Kerry had some bad moments, but he had his war heroism that mitigated the worst of it.  Mitt Romney doesn’t, nor out of five sons is there one serving, all of whom could have served in the military, but all chose to skip it.  There’s no redeeming biographical information that can save Romney from this one.
As for Rick Santorum, some conservatives consider his latest comment to be proof he’s “unraveling” now that he knows he can’t win the nomination. But he has made himself known, so he can regroup and in 2016 come out the conservative candidate from the start.
Unless Mitt Romney wins in November, which Santorum is betting pretty big he won’t.
