By |May 24th, 2010|

Full coverage at Huffington Post "... The thing you need to be terrified about is there might be no way to put this out other than waiting for the giant oil (inaudible) to deplete, which would be 9,000 days. So what they're already worried about is that it's going to take (the oil) out of [...]

Politico: Clinton ‘Most Logical Successor’ to Gates

By |May 24th, 2010|

...and we're off and running. I certainly appreciate the need for spectacular headlines using a question mark as cover. There is a lot of competition out there for eyes and advertising dollars. It does, however, leave Politico's journalistic efforts a lot to be desired today. Politico has a smart story about Secretary Gates as Yoda, [...]

Sarah ‘drill, baby, drill’ Palin Oversteps

By |May 24th, 2010|

The Gulf Coast catastrophe and Pres. Obama's horrific management of the crisis is bad enough. We don't need the princess of "drill, baby, drill" adding absurdity to the nightmare. Palin's support for expanded oil exploration as the 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate helped turn "Drill, Baby, Drill" into a party mantra. Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," [...]

Executive Branch as Feckless as Congress

By |May 23rd, 2010|

full coverage at Huffington Post What's it going to take to get the White House of its collective posterior? I still don't understand why Obama didn't appoint Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. to the commission instead of politicians. I'm sure Al Gore would have loved to survey the damage and weigh in. For the life of [...]

Happy Harvey Milk Day- Is Utah Ready To Elect A Lesbian To Congress? A Progressive One?

By |May 22nd, 2010|

by Howie Klein TM NOTE: I'm thrilled that Howie has accepted my invitation to post on progressives running for office that are worth your attention, but also your contributions. Beats giving to the DNC, DSCC, DCCC, or other alleged "progressive" groups that don't fight for progressive policies. Howie's one of the amazing people who run [...]

OBAMA FAILS: Carville (HuffPost & Chris Matthews) Slam Obama on BP Oil Spill Response (updated)

By |May 22nd, 2010|

Pres. Obama has got a Katrinaesque narrative quickly building on this one. Democratic strategist James Carville and MSNBC anchor Chris Matthews, two reliable supporters of President Barack Obama, have issued withering critiques of the administration's handling of the Gulf oil spill. Carville, the famously outspoken Louisianian who was a chief political aide to Bill and Hillary Clinton, told CNN's Anderson Cooper on Thursday that the administration's response to the spill has been "lackadaisical" and that Obama was "naive" to trust BP to manage the massive clean-up effort. "I think they actually believe that BP has some kind of a good motivation here," he said. "They're naive! BP is trying to save money, save everything they can... They won't tell us anything, and oddly enough, the government seems to be going along with it! Somebody has got to, like shake them and say, 'These people don't wish you well! They're going to take you down!'" Carville also accused the White House of going along with what he called the "let BP handle it" strategy. "I'm as good a Democrat as most people, and I think this administration has done some good things. They are risking everything by this 'go along with BP' strategy they have that seems like, lackadaisical on this, and Doug is right, they seem like they're inconvenienced by this, this is some giant thing getting in their way and somehow or another, if you let BP handle it, it'll all go away. It's not going away. It's growing out there. It is a disaster of the first magnitude, and they've got to go to Plan B." Also see Chris Matthews with Jay Leno. Devastating.

Political Zen

By |May 21st, 2010|

Rep. Souder resigned this week. Ideological purity versus implementation of policy for the public's welfare, the purpose of politics, don't mix. See Rand Paul. However, there are times when you have to take a stand and go down fighting if the principle you're asked to compromise is a bridge too far. One of the most [...]
