Wonder what David Shuster is doing these days, as another MSNBC dog fight breaks into the open.

There’s an old saying in show biz, always support the star, as upstaging him or her can be deadly.

Phil Griffin has now made it clear that MSNBC isn’t a news network, it’s simply a star vehicle. No stinking ombudsman needed here!

Yesterday on Donny Deutsch’s short-lived, weeklong hosting gig entitled “American the Angry,” he showed a clip of a Keith Olbermann rant that lumped him in with other negative, loud mouthed, blow hard talkers. You know, because he can mimic what’s on the right with the best of them. See around :46 seconds in the clip here.

Now, Deutsch is suddenly off the air, canceled.

[…] Mr. Olbermann’s detractors have repeatedly claimed in the past that he has refused to host his show on occasions when he was unhappy with management.

MSNBC declined to comment on the claim that Mr. Olbermann, who is not a part of the channel’s management, influenced the decision to bench Mr. Deutsch.

“The segment did not go unnoticed and we’re dealing with it internally,” said Jeremy Gaines, an MSNBC spokesman.

In an e-mail message, Mr. Olbermann said “Your account is entirely untrue. Your e-mail is the first I am hearing of any of this. What I know of what happened is this: Phil Griffin phoned me yesterday enraged at what was on that show and I didn’t disagree with him.” …

Joan Walsh tried to suggest that there were no blowhards on the left comparable to the right on “Morning Joe” Tuesday, which brought open scoffs from Mika and Joe, both of whom are big fans of Ms. Walsh. However, even as much as Olbermann and Ed Schultz huff and puff, can anything they say be compared to the wingnuts on radio? All Joe Scarborough could come up with was some obscure lefty film no one has seen, as well as MoveOn.org’s ad contest that landed them in hot water over Bush – Hitler references, which were horrifying. At one point yesterday “Morning Joe’s” producer simply begged the hosts to read op-eds to get off of the topic. Can there be little doubt that dancing Keith Olbermanns were tip-toeing across the MJ achors’ heads?

However, unlike Deutsch, they knew better than to say it.
