Congress lower than car salesman

Forgive my weird sense of humor but this survey just brought a chuckle to my day. As if the American public hadn’t figured this out already. What happened to the honorable representative of the people that we were told existed, who went out and fought for the people and not for campaign contributions. Something has really changed in this country or did I miss something while I was growing up?

Allow me to connect a few dots here. First of all “we the people” have the government that we all deserve and it’s the best damn government that money can buy. Secondly, and you will need a map for this part, Haliburton (Cheney & bush’s) has wanted to build a gas pipe line from the Caspian Sea to the Arabian Sea for 30 years. That billion dollar pipeline is to run through Turkmenistan (a country with one of the worst human rights records on the planet) Afghanistan (the reason we need 100,000 troops in there to pacify the place) and Pakistan. The US alraedy has a huge base in Turkmenistan and keeps its eyes shut as the leader of Turkmenistan abuses the sh*t out of his people. That leaves Afghanistan and Pakistan. Just today John “the idiot” Kerry and Richard “what do you want me to say today” Lugar said that the USA needed to expand the war in Afghanistan into Pakistan. Petraeus said that the surge into Afghanistan won’t be “quick.” And evrybody and their brother in Obama’s administration and in his military now says that the July 2011 exit date is just so much bulls**t said to appease the Left. (Me, I’m not feeling all that appeased. How about you?) Wake the FU** up you silly sheep and smell the coffee. Peace
Nobody around here is a “sheep,” Imhotep. …and most readers put down coffee and picked up something stronger a long time ago.
The denigration of Congress is a hardy perennial. It is hard to remember when the Legislative branch as whole was not widely held in contempt. Perhaps way back in the time of Dwight D. Eisenhower people had a higher opinion of Congress, maybe, sort of, kind of?
Still if pressed most people would admit that their Representative is an O.K. gal or guy. It’s all those other Politicians who are the problem. It is only Pork Barrel, it is only wasteful spending, when it is someone else’s district. In your own district it is “bringing home the bacon.”
Our system is corrupt because we allow it to become corrupt. We allow ourselves to wallow in the inertia of cynicism. We allow our political parties to be hijacked by narrow special interests. We allow operatically corrupt officials to breeze through uncontested primaries. We forget that voting is the beginning of our responsibilities as citizens of the nation; not the end.
For Democracy to work it requires that ordinary people get involved. Ultimately it is engaged citizen that is the counterweight to the machinations of special interest elites. Simply put no one is going to help us other than ourselves. That was the central error of the Obamabots in past election, it was the supposition that one strategically placed person could effect systemic change. No one politician can achieve such miracles by their own efforts even if they were inclined to try.
The only way we break the gridlock is by our own actions. We are not going to get any type of assistance from Blue Dog DINOs and the political jellyfish that surround them. We are our own salvation; it’s us or no one.
