The PO is Dead and so is this Bill. So I Think.

I have a rant here. And Im tired of working so hard and being left to rant. Sen Lincoln: what a liar you are. You are the very reason so many dont vote. Typical liar pol. She signed with labor a statement backing a natl pub opt months ago. her own website talks of her support of it. But clearly she works for Blue Cross and NOT AR. Lincoln needs to be ousted and Monday Im contacted AR Lt Guv Halter to urge him to primary and remove her.
Sen Landrieu. Wow. I used to admire her. i donated to her via HillPac. Hillary fundraised like hell to help save her sorry seat. No more. Will Landrieu vote for a final bill with a public opt? Maybe. With her I know she can be given enough sweetners- goodies for LA. But she will cost a pretty penny.
Sen Reid- I dont think he is serious here. If he felt there should be a strong pub opt he should have today done reconcillaition on it. rammed it through, Instead he is willing to sell off the base with Blanche and Mary and Joe-and Ben!
Today vote wasnt greeted with much joy and u could feel it. With Mary and Blanche vowing to kill the bill bc of a pub opt means to me its dead and maybe the bill itself now. Politico has a good writeup on all this. If reid wont do reconcillaition then there cant be a po right?! And um Sen Nelson again vows to fillibuster if the bill doesnt ban abortion. Thanks Stupak!
Oh if thats not enough of trouble for all this- a whole yr of our lives on this thing- latino members are furious over the sen version locking out immigrants from the exch.
There wont be a public opt. Its sinking in to liberals now. Today killed it. Only reconcilliation will give a PO and save the party a mutiny in 2010. I dont see how this bill passes. Liberals will balk at NO po and triggers. Its the liberals who are to compromise away never the conservadems. Shame on Obama for not leading.
Oh at least blue collar champion Sherrod Brown and others tonight say hell no to compromise on the PO. W e have done too much already. the senate is highly undemocratic. Highly. It doesnt reflect the will of the people. You need a supermajority to even talk about a freakin bill! 60 votes.
Oh one last note Im not happy with President Clinton either. Having met him many a time he is the master comforter in chief. A major free clinic drawing thousdands in AR was held funded by donors all over via Olbermann’s show. Kudos. Im no Olbermann fan but applaud any effort to do something for the suffering. Pres Clitnon told my friend eve on fdl he didnt approve of even attending the thing. He was afraid of the event hurting blue cross blanche. Halter was there of course. Clinton should have been there- a major AR figure who is able to comfort the masses in w ays no other figure right now can should have been there to lift those poor souls today.
Boy am I in a mood tonight! So how does this end-and it will now soon.

fdl asks the question im wodnering- why did reid put the opt out in the bill if he didnt have the votes of conservadems to begin with? now we have another compromise about to be compromised again. what votes did the opt out get? none it appears.

good!
I haven’t given up hope quite yet. Feeling bruised and battered with sleet and hard wind in my face and the Barromiter falling…but haven’t given up hope yet that this leaking, battered ship might STILL make it to port.
To use your analogy, secular, I don’t know if the battered ship will make it to port or not, and if it does, I’m not sure it will be worth salvaging.
As you put it, T4H, “now we have another compromise about to be compromised again.” The corner into which the Dems have allowed themselves to be painted, and not infrequently become painting participants, keeps getting smaller, with shrinking public space.
I think we’ll get a bill with a public option. I think we’ll get it because we’re not going to stop fighting.
Here’s info from the Little Rock Free Clinic yesterday:
http://www.arkansasonline.com/news/2009/nov/22/1000-say-ah-lr-free-clinic-20091122/
‘LITTLE ROCK — More than 1,000 uninsured Arkansans with a broad range of medical ailments, including at least seven who required immediate emergency care, sought care Saturday at a free clinic at the Statehouse Convention Center in Little Rock.
snip
The Communities Are Responding Everyday, or C.A.R.E., clinic was hosted by the Virginia-based National Association of Free Clinics, a nonprofit that supports more than 1,200 free clinics nationwide. It was the group’s third mass free clinic in recent months. The first was in Houston on Sept. 26, and the second was in New Orleans on Nov. 14.
Arkansas’ clinic had the largest volunteer support, said Nicole Lamoureux, executive director of the National Association of Free Clinics. Twenty-five organizations, including area hospitals, medical associations and other health-care providers, contributed volunteers and supplies for the clinic.
Each previous clinic had about 700 volunteers.
“We have 1,200 volunteers here today,” Lamoureux said. “Little Rock and Arkansas has really stepped up.”
About 50 physicians, representing such specialties as primary care, pediatrics, emergency medicine, orthopedics, and obstetrics and gynecology, were on hand to treat patients.
snip
“Some of these people are telling me they haven’t been to see a doctor in 12 or 15 years,” Lamoureux said.
Patients ranged from young children to senior citizens, and many said they had delayed seeing doctors because they didn’t have insurance or money to pay for it.
Patient Vicki Hanson, 46, of Haskell said she made her appointment with the clinic a few weeks ago and counted down the days until it arrived.
Eight years ago, she was diagnosed with advancedstage colon cancer after going to an emergency room. She spent 13 days in the hospital and underwent six months of chemotherapy.
When she was done with treatment, the cancer was gone, but she was overrun with medical bills and filed for bankruptcy protection. Recently, she was laid off from her job after about three years with the company.
Hanson said she can’t get health insurance because ofher medical history, so she just goes without care.
snip
But even with Saturday’s Senate vote on proposed legislation in Washington, D.C., Halter declined to discuss the debate in Washington.
“We have as a group decided to make this a nonpartisan event. The focus today is about providing medical care,” Halter said. “I’m going to keep my political opinions to myself.”’
Good morning Joyce Arnold and Secular. Surely democratz.org and t4h are getting some sleep.
If you want to really get pissed off read this article about how some of the “haves” lobby their Representative:

I feel like you do. At this point, I really don’t know what to think.
Thanks for the link, djjl. I keep thinking I’m as angry and disgusted as possible, but something always comes along to prove me wrong. Often it’s a response from my Texas legislators in DC.
And for this quote from the Little Rock Free Clinic, thanks, because it simply states what the “focus” should be: “‘We have as a group decided to make this a nonpartisan event. The focus today is about providing medical care,’ Halter said.”
I know I’m beating a dead horse – but since we’re still paying our doctors to ‘keep us sick’, this entire thing started out backassward in the first place. If only we could separate the two concepts of “profit” and “medical care”. Sure would change the pharmacy and drug division. It’s a lot like computer viruses. Norton and McAfee’s stock goes up every time a new virus (‘disease’) pops up. It makes you wonder where the virus actually came from.
Thanks Joyce Arnold. I agree about the anger. This preposterous attitude exhibited by diners’ is despicable. The haughty absurdity of declaring that Dr Vic Snyder, D of Arkansas was at THEIR beck and call. The inference that THEY had PAID for him and he and his family were to bow to their whim just shows how out of touch the HAVES have gotten about “the little people.” With his years of experience the good Dr Davis likely earns comfortably between $400,000 and $500,000. I wonder if he was volunteering at the free clinic in Little Rock yesterday? Nah – doubt it.
Good observations pmichael. BTW – that avatar is too homely for you

And I’m really happy about this – little ole Little Rock (189,515 pop and 675,000 metro area) had more volunteers than the clinics in Houston and New Orleans.
Tomorrow, November 23
Tim Griffin for Congress Reception
Type: Causes – Fundraiser
Where: The Home of Dr. Glenn and Janet Davis
When: Tomorrow from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
From Tim Griffin’s Facebook – remember Tim Griffin is the Karl Rove protege who was placed as the US Attorney replacing Reublican Bud Cummins in Arkansas in the US Attorney scandal.
Thanks for the link djjl. What a well written piece,,,it should get wider circulation.
I agree LAke Lady – it should be on Salon and Huffington Post and everywhere else I can’t think of!!!
I’m angrier now than when I first read it on Thursday. One may not agree with Vic Snyder on all things; but I believe him to be an incredibly decent human being.
sen nelson demands a dozen items be removed while sen sanders, brown etc demand the po remin. how in the hell can reid ever navigate this? either have all d ems commit to allow final votes tot he floor and they can vote no then or do reconcilliation right?
We all have to keep working.
We will keep working.
My final thought for tonight.
WtF??
Someone explain to me why all the ‘agreeable’ things in the health bill can’t be separated – voted on – and passed, first? This is absurd! NOTHING IS GETTING DONE. Does WashDC have some kind of Gawdamned LAW that a bill has to be eight inches thick before we can look at it ? You can’t PASS SEVEN INCHES OF IT that you’re not even arguing about, first ? Then spend the rest of your careers screaming at each other about the rest (in other words – exactly what you’re doing now). At least *something* would be accomplished. (and it’s damned scary when I find myself agreeing with Michelle Bachman when she threw this crap on the ground). Is there NOTHING in the damned thing other than ‘abortions’ and ‘death panels’ ?
Someone explain this to me. I truly do not understand. G’nite.
“A camel – is a horse made by a committee.”
I love you pmichael!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Considering how well adapted camels are to their hostile environments as well as doing fantastic in milder environments as opposed to how fragile horses are in adverse environments I wouldn’t knock committees too much

Dems took for granted that Pres. Obama’s power and sincere opening for bipartisanship would be respected and accepted by Republicans.
Then, naively moving forward on that assumption, Obama also understandably chose to not repeat WJC’s writing the bill option. However, he also decided he wouldn’t lead on health care either, leaving it to the committees of the Capitol.
The biggest mistake being not getting SOMETHING passed before the August recess, by whatever means necessary.
Once Obama and the Dems got beat by Palin’s “death panels” squeal, then the tea party activists were released, everything became up hill, as the right hijacked the health care debate.
Dems have made a horrific mess of the health care debate, with a final bill looking more and more like something no one should support.
The irony is that after staying out of it all year, Pres. Obama had to eventually weigh in, as was obvious he would from the start, to get anything done at all, so that now the bill will be his anyway. Not foreseeing that he’d always have to be part of this to get something done, plus getting stuck with a bad bill as it stands now, isn’t to Obama’s credit. It’s horrific management at the executive level.

Thanks for the explanation. I think you are spot on. The tragedy here is that this affects so many Americans on so many levels. I personally feel frustrated over this because I know the needs are so great – I really was hopeful, still am trying to be.
I’m still trying to understand how Obama, or anyone else, would have thought bipartisanship would work. Perhaps they thought the Republicans would do what Democrats so often do when in the minority — move toward your opponents positions.
Um. Actually, Sec – that’s the whole point. The ‘committee’ concentrated so much on camel ’survival’, they ignored everything else (fast running, don’t spit, decent seating, body odor, attractiveness, etc.)
Thanks, Taylor.
Guess the short answer is: ‘Because our current Democrats have completely screwed it up.’
JoyceArnold, as long as _
* Abortion = Murder &
* PrivateOption = total government takeover
– to the Right, there will never ever be any ‘movement’.
Until those two definitions are dealt with, Hell will freeze over before the Right gives a millimeter.
“Um. Actually, Sec – that’s the whole point. The ‘committee’ concentrated so much on camel ’survival’, they ignored everything else (fast running, don’t spit, decent seating, body odor, attractiveness, etc.)”
Camels are TOUGH survivors. The committee that put them together was TOE a pretty hard, heartless taskmaster. The “bad” points you make about Camels are completely arbitrary and only have relevance to wussy weatern sensativities.
The point you were trying to make has merit. You just used an awful analogy to try to make it with.
At least that’s what Walter told me.
pmichael, I agree — The Right won’t give on these, and other, definitions. But apparently the left will continue doing so.
Sec, I didn’t create the phrase:
http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/17/messages/698.html
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Talk:a_camel_is_a_horse_designed_by_a_committee
JoyceArnold, “definitions” may be the most important argument. Perfect example? Gay rights. First you have to agree/disagree whether Gays are a ‘choice’ or born that way. Until you settle that issue the other arguments are a complete waste of time. Also – as long as people define stem cells as “babies”, you may as well stop arguing.
And speaking of Gays – I’m stunned no one has posted or commented regarding the music awards last night.
Don’t get me started pmichael.
kris, I know what you mean (see the thread above which was declared ‘open’) – but that IS what Taylor’s site is good for; “venting”. Over the years, TM has had to spank me a few times – but even at my age I’ve learned a great deal about getting stuff off my chest, while at the same time doing so and actually ‘reaching’ a few people who initially disagreed.
Taylor’s site could be required reading in a Psychology class. *L*
This healthcare bill will look like Medicare Part D, in that it rewards companies too much for those who buy health care insurance. It still will have cost holes and it would not surprise me that people WITH insurance will still go bankrupt if they have serious illness and will have to sell their homes and face dying, like my friend did in 2007.
