Just saw this in the Hill. Speaker Pelosi is meeting with Trumka from AFL and other labor leaders on a major 2nd stim bill of up to 500bil. Trumka is pushing a new stim and was a critic of the first sayign it wouldnt be enough. Pleosi plans to pass a job bill by late Dec as members grow nervous. Reid also plans a bill for jobs. The WH? It has yet to weigh in as it awaits a summit. Good grief. But Pelosi is right to fight for a new stim bill asap. Reid must too. Lets hope its a strong bill with billiosn towards new infastructure, education etc… We need help.

While she has been the driving force behind the rollercoaster of my feelings about the Dem House I wholeheartedly support a HUGE Bill that would actually creat JOBS or get money into the pocket of the people and not the CEOs.

I agree with Trumka. I’m glad Pelosi is on this one. They should be nervous.

Tere are two things that the average American knows little or nothing about. One is how the economy works (economics) and the other is that the United States maintains a hugh overseas military empire and that our foreign policy is based on keeping that empire intact (more economics). Last February the Congress passed a $787 billion dollar stimulas bill that has, so far, created zero (0) jobs. (If unemployment stood at 5.8% when the stim bill passed and it stands at 10.2% today, that means that we have lost jobs.) Some politicians and economists claim that we would have lost more jobs had we not passed the stim bill. But that’s like saying that had we not illegally and preemptively invaded Afghanistan, al Qaeda would, by now, be ruling the world. The latest productivity rate (rate of production) was reported to have increased and now stands at 9.5%. That is the greatest increase in the rate of production since the last recession in 2003 when it stood at 9.7%. When fewer workers (or machines) are doing more work at less cost the productivity rate increases. Most, and in some cases all, of that excess productivity goes directly into the pockets of the owners of the means of production in the form of increased profits. I could go on but suffice to say the best way to increase jobs is to jawbone the employers into hiring more workers and pay them wages rather than pocketing those increased profits gained from rising productivity. For that you do not need a stimulus bill. You need common sense and a basic understanding of capitalism and economics. Peace

    Seconded imhotep.

A second stimulus should be DOA.

More proof that Pelosi is tone deaf to the politics of economics currently swirling, which could turn into a hurricane headed straight towards Dems.

Obama & Co. blew it by screwing up the initial stimulus. You don’t get do-overs in a political climate that exists today.

There is only so much the federal government can do to “create” jobs. An economic fact is the business’s, small and large, create jobs. Right now I don’t know a small business owner that is interested in expanding as there are too many variables that may cost them. Just one exampmle…. an 8% payroll tax for health care. I guarantee you that if this is part of the end product you will not see new jobs in small businesses.

Trade deficits, a huge factor in what is happening in the economy. Massive federal and state debt. And debt that is long term, as far as the eye can see. Just my opinion, but I don’t believe you can spend your way out of economic problems. It’s a ridiculous premise.

There are some really good reads about the economy out there. But you must read them with an open mind….read that the feds can’t fix this problem.
