Are we watching a katrina slo mo? check out the report openleft cites. 900,000 state run jobs are about to be slashed-that will be devastating to america. Word is state and local pols arent lobbying congress as hard as they shoudl to save these folks’ jobs-yet. As rosenberg says this si a fight the blogs shouldnt have to pressure congress on but will. These jobs can be saved with some of that unused tarp instead of using it to pay off chinese bankers. These jobs can be saved by the govt right now. If they arent then its on the dems’ hands. And millions more will suffer as teh folks who handle food stamps, parks etc are cut away. evrything is a fight it seems. But we will fight.

Who exactly is our economy meant to be for? All of us or just a few chosen multinationals.

The school district I work in got about 5 or 6 million dollars in stimulus money that saved a whole lot of teaching positions that otherwise would have been lost, and that was after 70 positions were eliminated over this past summer. The state is still in bad shape regardless and Gov. Paterson is proposing mid year budget cuts that, if passed by the state legislature, will result in about another 150 positions being cut mid-year, which would be devastating to our district. Looks like it could happen, though. Class sizes keep getting bigger and bigger which affects instruction. Our county is on the verge of the same kind of situation.

Get ready to hear a lot about the deficit. Cuts are coming and progressives are not going to like it.
