Party’s Over

Wow that’s a fast turn around to analysis.

Everybody is an Independent. True.

…In other words, in the age of Obama, it’s now more about personality power over party ideology even more than it was before.

To the above, I would like to comment.

Do these Independent’s or voters overall have any basic requirements?

Perhaps they do. Which might not be good for incumbents from either party. Some interesting items from yesterday.

The exit polling from both New Jersey and Virginia shows the the Democrats were viewed more as the attacker then the Republicans.

New York City Mayor race. The closeness of the race was somewhat surprising. This closeness was probably due to Bloomberg going thru City Hall and overturning terms limits, which voters supported. Fortunately, for him, he has gobs of money.

NY23, not really going to get into all the drama, but there probably is validity to the criticism of how Scozzafava was selected; behind closed doors by a select few. A benefit for Owens.

Corruption was a factor in New Jersey, which might be more of a factor nation wide in 2010. Politicians misbehaving is not acceptable.

And of course the Economy and how tax dollars are spent.

So to sum it up for a certain segment (a large segment) being a Democrat or being a Republican is just a label. A means to get elected.

And the basic requirements are to run a campaign base on the issues important to their voters. Do that you get elected. But if you don’t do your job, you will not get re-elected.

Just some random thoughts.

“All politics is local,” said Tip O’Neill. Deeds of VA is(was) a jerkoff who said on the campaign trail that as governor he would “opt out” of the public option. Good riddance to this clown. Corzine needed to be retired because his political sins were legion. In todays political climate his connections to the Bilderberg Group and as ex-CEO of Goldman Sachs were not helpful. Obama was put on notice that unless “we the people” begin to see (and damn quickly) some of that “change we can believe in” the Democrats will lose both the House and Senate in 2010 and he will end up being a one term president. (Check the voter turn out of those under 35 yesterday.) Peace

Check the voter turnout, PERIOD !

    That’s the thing I warned of, hc4bo. It’s foreshadowing for 2010.

Imhotep, Deeds proves you can’t run for office standing for nothing.

As for Corzine, as well as Bloomberg, incumbency hurt. Corzine is a real loss as he was actually progressive. But it’s done.

On NY23, let’s not forget that Owens was selected the same way, not even being a Dem until AFTER he was chosen. I’m not kidding. That Hoffman went as far as he did in only a month, especially considering he has absolutely NO POLITICAL TALENT WHATSOEVER is remarkable. Rubio will be different.

Independents are very focused on fiscal issues, among other things, obviously, but Bailout Blues is the mood. This bodes ill for robust health care reform, as Obama & Dems will take this lesson, as Blue Dogs & the Blanche Lincoln coalition use it as leverage to do the wrong thing = nothing or incrementalism.

  4. Lake Lady says:

Taylor,if your last paragraph is true then Dems can kiss it all good bye. If the people don’t feel positive change in their lives soon they will have proven that they can’t govern and the base will shrivel.

We all know what Republican governing is like so….

This country is in such serious trouble with an incompetent leadership class while the rest of the world seems to be recovering and moving forward.Somehow our young and vibrant country has gotten old and stoggie with seeming paralisis at the top.

What we need is a young, bold, charismatic, leader who can convince the country he can bring much needed change. Oh yeah…we have already tried that.

  5. Taylor Marsh says:

Hey Lake Lady. I hope I’m wrong, believe me. But when politicians are spooked they don’t get bold, they get cautious.

  6. Imhotep says:

Term Limits. Or as Bob Dylan once said “If you got nothing, you got nothing to lose.” As Taylor implied, the politicians will do nothing if they fear that doing something will get them voted out of office. Them doing nothing is a good thing. (At the moment they are doing what they want and not what “we the people” want.) Voting every last incumbant out of office in 12 months would be a better thing. That way they are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Now that’s a beautiful thing. Peace

    Term Limits.

    It’s called ELECTIONS.

  8. djjl says:

Agreed Taylor. Term limits deprive the voter of a right to vote for their choice.

Obama may want to avoid the transgressions of the past; but it appears other citizens of the world think the law matters:

“MILAN — An Italian judge on Wednesday convicted 23 Americans in absentia of the 2003 kidnapping of an Egyptian cleric from a Milan street, in a landmark case involving the CIA’s extraordinary rendition program in the war on terrorism.”

  9. Taylor Marsh says:

AlJazeera English covered that this morning, djjl.

Not *that’s* worthy of a diary, especially if you’d opine a bit. ;-)
