and WHY?

“A new Oklahoma law requires physicians to disclose detailed information on women’s abortions to the State’s Department Of Health, which will then post the collected data on a public website. The controversial measure comes into effect on November 1 and will cost $281,285 to implement, $256,285 each subsequent year to maintain.
Oklahoma women undergoing abortion procedures will be legally forced to reveal:
1) Date of abortion
2) County in which abortion is performed
3) Age of mother
4) Marital status of mother
5) Race of mother
6) Years of education of mother
7) State or foreign country of residence of mother
8) Total number of previous pregnancies of the mother ”

A view into what a let the states decide policy would look like if Griswold was ever overturned. It’s not about Roe.

  2. djjl says:

Griswold is spooky to consider being overturned.

Personally, I oppose abortion; but this law is so troublesome to me. So much material to cause really nasty problems with political mischief.

  3. djjl says:

Just a point, while I oppose abortion – it is a decision that should be for a woman to make. As GeoT once noted, he and I believed that our personal opposition stopped at another woman’s nose.

Not according to Louie Gohmert :-)

  5. djjl says:

Yuk! What a worthless excuse for a legislator. The people of Longview and Tyler should be embarrassed.

  6. kris says:

We should all email him. Hey let’s make him a poster boy for 2010.

  7. Jane Austen says:

I’m thinking there might be HIPPA implications in the posting of this type of information. You wouldn’t necessarily have to have the patient name to find out who the patient was.

There are more than 100 groups trying to overturn Griswold. Unbelievable? Not really. There are people out there who really do believe that a woman should be kept barefoot and pregnant.
